Firenze cast his eyes over at Julian and Astoria and cleared his throat to get their attention. He quickly addressed the class so that they could begin in a timely manner.
"C'mon on foals, it's not the Forbidden Forest it's only a replica. I suppose it's just the four of us today so let's get started, shall we?"
He gestured to the board.
"As you can plainly see the emphasis of this chapter is dreams. Centaurs aren't too fond of dream interpretation but other groups take them very seriously. Last period, I asked everyone to record their dreams for a week and attempt to interpret them with accordance to the textbook."
He smiled at Julian.
"You're Head Boy, I'll start with you. Record anything interesting or surprising?"

*Opens his mouth to respond to Astoria and freezes momentarily when Firenze calls on him*
Let me check what I wrote.
*Reads without emotion*
I dreamt that I slammed a box shut. The box was made of wood that was painted yellow and it had a black dog on the top. I think there was something silver in the box.
*Shrugs carelessly*

Firenze's fair tail swished violently as this. The boy had a certain aura about him and he seemed angry enough for the dream. He cleared his throat and tried to be objective; it was an impressive dream.
"Do you have any idea what the dream means, Mr. Montenegro?"
The centaur looked around the room for any Hufflepuff students and did not find any. With some relief he smiled tersely.

*gives up her search for the scorpion when the professor addresses Julian*
*listens as peruses through her parchments, cursing herself for forgetting her dream notes*
*sighs and hopes that he doesn't bother to ask her or else she'll have to make something up*

*Turns his focus at Firenze*
It can't be a good thing, Professor. The black dog is a grim. That's obvious. The box seemed to be glowing as if full of life.
*Realises where this is headed and shakes his head*
No, I don't know what it means.
*Rubs a knuckle over his chin, knowing exactly what the dream means but not wanting to get in trouble*

Firenze regarded the student with curiosity. He was on the right track but he did not seem to care to finish his analysis.
"Well Mr. Montenegro, you're correct about the grim and you are close with the box. The box seemed full of life because it IS a life. This dream means you will take another student's life. Judging from the colour of the box the victim could be in Hufflepuff."
He smiled reassuringly at the student and his peers.
"Not to fear, all predictions are never set in stone. You can just as easily change the course of events. I would suggest staying away from foals in Hufflepuff for now. Also, dreams can always be interpreted more than once. We may be incorrect."
He somehow doubts that the dream is symbolic for anything else, but keeps quiet about it. Sometimes students needed hope more than anything.

*raises an interested eyebrow at hearing the professor's interpretation of Julian's dream*
*leans over and whispers to Julian*
That’s quite enlightening. What Huffie are you holding a grudge against then?
*smiles mischievously*

*Looks stricken*
I have no idea. They usually escape my notice.

Hmm...
*suspects he's lying but decides not to push it so she just shrugs and turns away*
If you say so.

Firenze looked up at the magical ceiling that for today was a good imitation of a starry night with dark purple clouds and a sliver of moon. He hoped that the omen wouldn't drive Julian to seek out a Hufflepuff. Some humans loved to fulfill their dreams, thinking they could not escape them.
He forced a warm smile at Astoria.
"Miss Greengrass? Did you record any dreams? Can you tell a significant one and its attempted meaning?"
His tail swished again, keeping his gaze at Julian and Astoria.

*runs a hand through her hair nervously*
I er...actually, I didn't bring my notes with me. But I could tell you about a recurring dream I've had since I was a little girl. It's kind of silly though.
*sighs with a bit of embarassment*
Well, in the dream I am lost among a crowd of dark robed strangers. The whole time I have the feeling that I shouldn't be there but there's something or someone I'm searching for. It usually ends with me running into one of the figures, making him or her turn around. But I wake up before I can see their face.
*shrugs*
Told you it was silly.

He shook his head slowly, encouraged by a promising Slytherin.
"Not at all. Did you find a plausible meaning on your own or with the book's help? Either will earn you full points as long as it's not completely unconnected."
His tail begins to swish with interest.

*tickles her chin with her quill as tries to recall what she wrote on her notes*
Um...I think the book said something about perhaps having lost sight of my goals in life? But that wouldn't apply to an 8 yr old girl, would it?
No, I think it's more about worry or insecurity... just don't know about what exactly.
*her eyes suddenly catch some movement by her feet, so she surreptitiously moves her foot and squishes the bug with a soft crunch*
*smiles charmingly up at the professor, hoping he didn't see that and betting he'd have a problem with the killing of "an innocent creature".

**shrinks on her rock, already feeling partly invisible because of the two older Slytherins, gratefully so**
**thinks hopelessly**
Julian always attracts all the attention, like a blinding light in the dark...

He smiled at the Slytherin girl who spoke about her dream, for encouragement.
"Recurring dreams... The only good thing is next time you have that dream you can recall even more details and try to connect the pieces. Not a bad attempt in all, good."
Firenze then checked an instrument on his desk that looked like a sundial.
"That's all I have for this class. We'll be working with dreams next time as well. It's all part of the new curriculum. The new headmaster wants the professors to focus on what will probably be on your OWLS and NEWTS. It is unfortunate that we can't study something more revered."
He pawed a hoof on a rock, very much wanting to crack open star charts and the like. He jumped out of his reverie to call to the class.
"Class dismissed! Continue recording your dreams. All the foals who shared today will get house points."
