{Harry Potter: The Boy, The Man, The Chosen One?} The truth about his life since Hogwarts. Q: Of course, it was you who exposed You-Know-Who at the end of your fourth year but you were cruelly disbelieved, even ridiculed. How did that make you feel? Do you still feel resentment towards those who put you down during that time?A: I didn't care if people believed me or not that Voldemort is back. He is. End of story. Q: A few years ago you did an exclusive interview with The Quibbler, owned by the father of your friend, Luna Lovegood. How did the wizarding world respond to the truth when all were convinced you were “unstable” and “disturbed”?A: Well, considering that you're part of the wizarding world, what did you think when the truth came out?Personally, at first I was terrified. I was disinclined to accept the fact but I have come to embrace my fear.Q: How did it affect your relationships with your fellow Hogwarts students?A: It didn't have an affect on any important relationships. Other people either believed me or didn't. I couldn't care less either way to be honest.Q: On the subject of Mr Lovegood, since he vanished a little while ago, what steps have been taken to discover his whereabouts and condition?A: I'm afraid that is something that should be asked to the Ministry.Q: It has come to my attention that you were attacked in Diagon/Knockturn Alley. I accept that this may be a sensitive point so feel free not to reply but have you any idea, why and how this came about?A: No, I don't. I was outside the popular potion shop, Full Moon Potions, and was bitten by a female vampire. Before I could respond, she had fled. I believe that there is an on going investigation into the attack.Q: A recent article was published saying, “it appears 'The chosen one' and his girlfriend, or shall I say ex girlfriend, Ginny Weasley have broken up!” Is there any truth in this allegation? A: No, there is not.Q: After the shocking events at the Ministry of Magic, concerning yourself, the late Albus Dumbledore, the known Death Eater, Bellatrix LeStrange and the Dark Lord himself, we have been appointed a new Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour. It is rumored that you do not get on with him?A: We get along just fine, thanks.Q: That being the case, would you prefer Cornelius Fudge to still be in office or did his disbelief that You Know Who was back, lower him in your estimation?A: I believe that Fudge being removed from office was a wise move. However, I do not involve myself with the Ministry.Q: Have you had any contact with ex-senior undersecretary to Cornelius Fudge, Dolores Umbridge since she left Hogwarts?A: I believe the answer to that would be no. I have not had any contact with her. Last time I saw her was at Dumbledore's funeral.Q: She confessed to setting two dementors onto you and your cousin in the summer before she began teaching. How did you feel when you found out that it was a Ministry official trying to silence you, rather than a dark wizard? I imagine you were shocked and angry?A: I was neither shocked nor angry. It didn't matter much to me who set the dementors on me. The only important thing is that no one was hurt and that the issue was resolved and that it hasn't happened since.Q: Your organization, the DA. After being formed years ago, have you seen any significant changes within it?A: After Umbridge was ousted from Hogwarts there wasn't a need to continue on with the D.A. Defence against the Dark Arts classes resumed and the students were able to continue to learn and apply the spells. So there wasn't much of a point, but I have kept in contact with a few of them.Q: Lastly, many of our readers would like to know what steps are being taken to defeat He Who Must Not Be Named. It’s needless to say that the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and the Auror Office, are working flat out to catch and imprison those deemed a threat, but have you and your friends focused attention on fighting He Who Must Not Be Named’s ranks yourself? A: I understand the times we live in but I believe the aurors are doing most of the leg work and are dedicated to this very issue.Tallia Gauthier in 60 Seconds

Cringe
* Wear a wig ** Wear an invisibility cloak *** Fly away and never return
** - The other day I took my first apparition test. In all the lessons I'd been ok at it and I was feeling pretty confident. I was just about to do the test when this hottie who I have a massive crush on walked out of a nearby shop. I turned totally jelloid and as the apparition instructor shouted "go", I lost concentration and splinched myself, right in front of the cutie! I wanted the ground to open and swallow me up! From Embarrassed Ravenclaw, age 17.
*** - Last week my fiancée invited her mother and father round so I could meet them before the wedding. I’d spent most of the day cleaning, tidying and cooking for the evening meal. When her parents arrived I was exhausted yet satisfied that I and my house looked acceptable. The first course went fine but when I levitated the roast beef and gravy in for the main course, I misjudged the distance and dropped in…right into my future mother-in-law’s lap! Gravy splattered everywhere and ruined her new, fine silk dress robes. Thankfully, I won’t be levitating gravy at the wedding although I don’t think she’ll forgive me any time soon. Blushing Bride-Groom, age 25.

Editor’s Note
Dear Readers,
I thought I'd use this space today to recomend a potion I've recently discovered. It's called Deridor and it's a hair removal potion. It's pretty new on the market and isn't very widely know but I had a tip off that it was the best out there. I and a few of my friends tested the product on our legs and all of us have had most satisfying results. There has been no unwanted hair growth since we've been using the potion once a week. It's wonderful. There's no more need for complicated spells or dodgey home made potions. Deridor smells divine, has no horrid side effects and gives great results. I suggest you try it!

{Daughter Desperate after Editor’s Disappearance} Luna Lovegood exclusively share her feelings after the mysterious disappearance of her father One quiet evening last month, Luna Lovegood, 16, was at home waiting for her father. He was uncommonly late coming home from work so she decided to visit her close friends, Harry Potter, 18, and Ginny Weasley, 17, so as not to be all alone in a dark, empty house. She stayed with them for the evening then decided to go home, as she didn’t want her father to be worried about her safety.
After stepping from the fireplace, however, it become obvious that something wasn’t right. “From a window I could see that Death Eaters had surrounded the house, and the Dark Mark was floating precariously above us!” said a shaken Luna a few days ago. “Once I took in everything, I was terrified, so I did no further investigations and got myself out of there before anything could happen.”
She went back to her friends, Harry and Ginny, who were most alarmed to hear what had happened. Of course, they agreed to help her get to the bottom of it, so together the ventured back into the, now deserted, house. Once inside, Luna followed Harry Potter, who is worldly renowned for his bravery, up the stairs but when he got to the top of the stairs, the two girls saw him freeze, as if in terror. Both girls, made attempts to see past him but in the end Luna pushed him aside, only to be confronted with a dreadful scene. A man was lying on the floor, face up, eyes open, with a look of horror on his finely chiselled features, dead.
”I ran to his side, believing that he was daddy. I mean, he looked like daddy. His hair, his clothes... The stitch on his robe was even the same.” But on closer inspection, Luna realised that the man before her had brown eyes, unlike her father’s characteristic green ones. “I was so relieved that the poor man on the floor was not my father, but we determined that daddy must have been taken by the Death Eaters!” As of yet, we don’t know why Mr Lovegood has been taken or why some other poor soul had to die trying to trick Luna and her friends into believing he was dead, but the office of Magical Law Enforcement and the Auror office, ensure us that they are working flat out to decipher the sordid mystery. A Ministry spokeswizard has asked that any one with information as to Mr Lovegood's whereabouts, send an urgent owl to the Ministry and that any help would be greatly appreaciated. Meanwhile, Luna is left to pick up the pieces of her shattered life, with only her friends for company. Admirably, she is keeping positive and states, “I still don't know where Daddy is, but I know in my heart that he is alive and I hope that we'll find him soon."

Spell of the Week
This week’s spell is the locking charm,
Colloportus
It locks almost anything that needs securing and although it needs practising, is relativly simple to master. Point wand at the object you wish to lock, whether it's a door, box or draw and in one, swift movement swish your wand from left to right follows by a short flick whilst saying the incantation, Colloportus. Taste for the Tasteful
Pumpkin Pie
Ingredients Pate Brisee (Short Crust Pastry):
1 1/4 cups (175 grams) all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon (14 grams) granulated white sugar
1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, chilled, and cut into 1 inch (2.54 cm) pieces
1/8 to 1/4 cup (30 - 60 ml) ice water
Pumpkin Filling:
3 large eggs
2 cups fresh pumpkin puree or 1 - 15 ounce can (425 grams) pure pumpkin
1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup (110 grams) light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
Procedure
Pate Brisee: Mix the flour, salt, and sugar until combined. Add the butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Pour 1/8 cup (30 ml) water in a slow, steady stream onto the mixture until the dough just holds together when pinched. If necessary, add more water.
Turn the dough onto your work surface and gather into a ball. Flatten into a disk and use your wand to blow icy air onto it for 30 minutes to one hour before using. This will chill the butter and relax the gluten in the flour.
After the dough has chilled sufficiently, place on a lightly floured surface, and roll into a 13 inch (33 cm) circle. (To prevent the pastry from sticking to the counter and to ensure uniform thickness, keep lifting up and turning the pastry a quarter turn as you roll (always roll from the center of the pastry outwards).) Fold the dough in half and gently transfer to a 9 inch (23 cm) pie pan. Brush off any excess flour and tuck the overhanging pastry under itself. Use a fork to make a decorative border. Alternatively, you can trim the pastry to the edge of the pie pan. With the remaining pastry make decorative cut-outs (leaves, pumpkins, etc.) and with a little water, attach them around the lip of the pie pan. Cool the pastry again before pouring in the filling.
Make the Pumpkin Filling: In a large bowl lightly whisk the eggs. Add the remaining ingredients and stir to combine. Pour the mixture into the prepared pie shell and place on a large baking pan to catch any spills. Bake the pie for about 45 to 55 minutes or until the filling is set and the crust has browned (the center will still look wet). (A knife inserted about 1 inch (2.54 cm) from side of pan will come out almost clean.)
Place the baked pie on a wire rack to cool. Serve at room temperature. Store any leftovers in a cold place.

What was he really like at school?A. He acted like he owned the place. He enjoyed the attention, revelled in it. He really mixed with the wrong crowd, I think, from the start. Everyone acted like sycophants around him. It was rather tedious after a while.Q. You say he got in with the "wrong crowd"? Who were these people and do you think they encouraged his attention-seeking?A. Well, you know he is friends with the Weasleys. They are the new-age Muggle-adoration leaders, aren't they? I don't think we need any more of those types of families in the Wizarding World. The Muggle World and Wizard World should stay as separate as possible.Q. In his time, Mr Potter has accused you and your friends of many awful things. How does this make you feel? A. (Draco laughs) Heartbroken(!) No really, I don't care what he says about me or anyone I associate with.Q. In your third year, you were savagely attacked by a hippogriff in a Care of Magical Creatures lesson. How did it really happen?A. Well, I was standing there minding my own business when the beast looked at Pansy Parkinson in a way that made me think it was going to attack her. So I did the brave thing and stood in front of her to protect her, and then it went for me. Nasty creature.Q. When the said hippogriff escaped after being sentenced to death by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, how did you feel? And do you have any suspicions as to who was behind the affair? A. Yeah, it was Hagrid, wasn't it? I mean, he took a shine to the foul thing. Couldn't really have been anyone else, could it? How did I feel? Undermined. Let down. By the school, by the Ministry... you know.Q. When you were in your fourth year of Hogwarts, the Triwizard Tournament was held at the school. For the first time ever, the Goblet of Fire was tricked and there were four champions instead of three. The second Hogwarts champion was none other than an underage Harry Potter, the boy who had terrorized you since the first day of school. Did you feel that his being allowed to compete was unfair?A. Everyone did. Did you? It was ridiculous, a farce.Q. Of course, a year before you were due to finish your education at Hogwarts, the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, was murdered. What was your reaction to this news?A. Not too shocked really. I mean, it was bound to happen sooner or later.Q. Since leaving school, it is rumoured that you have set up a friendship with the renowned dragon keeper, Bojan Vladislav. Are you interested in his work and the dragons he looks after?A. We've spoken a few times. Dragons are pretty fascinating creatures. 8. Roll out the other half of the pastry. Moisten the edge of the bottom layer of pastry and place the second piece on top.

10. Flute the edges with a pinching action using your fingers and thumb.
11. Prick the surface of the pastry lightly before placing the pie in the oven. Cook for 20-30 minutes.
12. When the pie is cooked it should move slightly on the plate when gently shaken.
13. Slide on to a serving plate, dust with caster sugar and serve.

Dear Witch Weekly,
It was my daughter's wedding last week. She and her husband have had a very tough time as he fell from a broomstick barely a year ago. For 6 months he was in a coma but fortune was obviously smiling on them because he came around the day before we had planned to cancel the wedding. I know she loves your magazine and it would make her so happy if you would print this message and show her wedding photo.

{Dreams} The new and latest discoveries about our dreams Why do we dream?
The external world functions in a state of rapid, perpetual flux and involver many inter-relationships, which incorporate feelings and thoughts that originate from both yourself and other people; situations that may be ordinary or extraordinary, and all the subsequent information that arises from these relationships and situations. The individual's journey through this cacophony is as varied and complex as it is important to the individual's development. It is not suprising, then, that in the midst of this confusion the human survival instinct surfaces and reinstates itself in the dream world, in an attempt to gain insight and understanding. The profusion and confusion of information operating in any given moment requires sifting and sorting out in order to give it form and sensibility.
Where do dreams come from?
Firstly, there are the immediate sources: your home, family and friends. Add to these your own feelings and thoughts, in which you carry your hopes, fears and aspirations. This is your personal pool of information, that helps to shape your outlook and reactions to daily life. For example, an old house that you lived and played in as a child could be a comforting environment that you return to in your dreams, providing you with a sense of personal identity and security. Then there is the body of information that comes from your social pool: people and situations that you encounter through work, business, education, dealings with the law and so on. Here you come into contact with traditions, customs, ethics, values and principles by which society operates. Finally, you have references that are common to all humans. These include the natural urges and instincts we experience through the difference stages of life: childhood, puberty, youth, maturity and old age, and all that each phase of growing-up entails.
The Dream Language The dream world uses information collected by your senses from your waking life and reprocesses it, presenting it in a new way, so that you can understand yourselves and others, and the nature of the details relevant to a situation, with a lot more clarity and truth. The language of dreams codes itself in two ways: - Literal: presenting information directly parallel to everyday life. - Symbolic: representing the information in a coded form, disguised from everyday life. The unconscious dream world uses signs, images, sensations and metaphors. The main form of information is presented in a visual way, although the unconscious will also use the other senses in order to draw the dreamer's attention to relavant details. The main factor in understanding your dreams is crossing over the threshhold of coding systems: from the logical conscious mind - which processes information in a sequential linear order - to the more free-floating realm of the unconscious. In the unconscious, images and sensations float about as a minestrone of thoughts and feelings, which await selection and group together in order to give them coherence and meaning. These floating fragments of information remain non-associated or independent until enough components come together to form the basis of an answer to a question or puzzle, generated by the waking logical mind. What to look for in your dreams- The theme: What was the general plot of the dream? Was it about a place, being chased, wearing clothes, a journey, drowning, falling, flying, snakes and so on? - The action: What is happening? Where is it happening? (Is it a place you know from the past? Or perhaps somewhere unknown to you?) - Were you central in the dream or were you peripheral to the action?: This indicates your position and degree of significance in a situation in the real world. - The overall atmosphere and mood: Was it bright and clear, or dark and murky? Was it a scary or enjoyable dream? Or perhaps it was about a competition. (Did you win the race? Did you enjoy taking part in the race?) - The environment: Was it on the land or sea, in the air or underground? By taking note of the environment we gain an insight into the root of the problem. Generally speaking, water represents emotions and land means money and aspects of self-worth, whilst air denotes the mind and thinking. To find yourself underground or deep in the bowels of the earth suggests reconnection with your true self. - Colours: Sometimes colour might be the significant feature of a dream, and may be enough on its own to decipher the full meaning. On other occasions the colour might be incidental, but no less significant. You may find out that certain colours stand out in the dream, so try and remember if one colour predominated over the others. - Anagrams/numbers: These could hold valuable information about scheduals, games of chance, significant dates and perhaps significant times when events will happen. - Characters, objects and animals: Different characters in dreams often symbolize different facets of the dreamer's psyche of character, such as thier masculine and feminine side, and will often surface in dreams if a particular part of the psyche is being repressed or ignored. They can also often act as metaphorical stand-ins and represent a situation that needs clarifying, or a person under review. This removes any biases and predudices that the dreamer may have, and allows the dream to present a clear picture of their true nature and character. When you see stand-ins in a dream, ask youself this basic question: do they remind you of anybody? Ingredients 1 squirrel, quartered 1 cup diced onion 2 large tomatoes Assorted vegetables
Preparation: Sprinkle seasoned salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper (optional) liberally on the meat. Pour some cooking oil into a large pot (dutch oven). Sauté the meat with the onions until well browned. Drain the excess oil, add about 2 cups water, and bring to a boil. Cut up the tomatoes and add. Reduce the heat, and let slow cook for at least an hour. Important: older squirrels may require cooking longer than an hour. Check periodically for tenderness. If you don't you will have a hard time chewing the meat. After the meat is tender, add the vegetables. Cook until the vegetables are done. An option you can use is, cook up your Favourite pasta and serve over the pasta. (eliminate the potatoes).

Dear Witch Weekly,
I'm from Pittsburgh, USA and I'm a big fan of Witch Weekly. I just wanted comment on how people are so rude and harsh about jounalists. I was reading one comment about how a girl thought that journalists were evil and manipulative. I couldn't believe what I was reading! I belive that you and the jounalists that work for your magazine are totally truthful and let the world know what we need to know without dressing it up as something it isn't. In these troublesome times, we need to stay together and fight evil together, not alienate those amongst us that are bothering to reveal even the darker secrets of our race.

Dear Readers,
This season's must have accessory is firefly and fairy jewellery. Live fireflies give the subtle sparkle, essential for all society events. Whereas vain little fairies love nothing more that to be shown off on a night out with the girls. Ask nicely and tell them how beautiful they are and they may even glimmer brighter than usual to attract that special someone for you.

{Bojan Vladislav: The Fire behind the Flames} Revelations of the world-renowned Dragon Keeper, Bojan Vladislav Q. Have you always been interested in dragons?
A. I have always been interested in dragons, ever since the age of six. Though the interest at first was not one of admiration. It was only until I got to my teenage years that I began to respect them and understand them.
Q. Dragons are truely fascinating creatures but why do they in particular capture your attention?
A. Well, firstly they are very intelligent creatures. They are most perceptive. Even though they are very dangerous, they still have compassion for one another, especially their siblings and their mothers. And they are very misunderstood. If you respect their strength and temperament, then they will respect you in turn.
Q. What enspired you to take your love of dragons a step further and start working at the dragon reserve in Romania?
A. I just wanted to make a difference. There were so many dragons being killed unnecessarily, and I found that I could communicate with them and help people. Somehow, I know what they are feeling. I do not know how I got this ability.
Q. What is your Favourite part of working with dragons?
A. I like to look after injured dragons until they are better to be released. I also love it when a dragon hatches - it is a wonderful thing to see. Have you even seen a dragon hatching?
No, I cannot say that I have. Would you care to describe it?
Well... it is a slow process. The first crack can appear a few weeks before it hatches. Then, the little dragon pierces the bottom of the egg, were the shell is weaker, with his or her claw. If it is a Longhorn, they are known to pierce the shell with one of their horns. They come out very defensive, they will see a creature bigger than them and think that you are prey, so they will breathe their small flame at you. (Bojan laughs) But it is only a small flame, since they are so small wen they hatch. It is quite a sight. They then find their mother and bond. If the mother is not there, they can get confused and vicious.
Q. If you had to choose, which is your favourite breed of dragon?
A. I love both the Antipodean Opaleye and the Romanian Longhorn the most. For different reasons. The Opaleye is mild and more good natured than most other species. The Longhorn is the most intelligent and their gold horns are beautiful.
Q. How do you feel about the use of dragons for potion ingredients and clothing? Do you believe it cruel?
A. I do not like it, you know. I can see why they need the ingredients for potions, it is very valuable - the blood, the liver, the heartstrings and so on. I have managed to pass an act under IPOD (International Protection of Dragons) that states that no dragon under the age of thirty years old is to be slain for this use. I am currently trying to get a law passed that makes it illegal to take ingredients from any live and healthy dragons. I have not been able to get the law passed in any of the governments so far, but I am very determined to do it.
As a result of my interview with Mr Vladislav, I am starting up a petition to help get the law passed. If you are interested in joining our ranks, send me an owl at Witch Weekly Head Office, Hogsmeade.

Dear Witch Weekly,
I read an article in the daily prophet about the possibility of creating a death penalty for know and convicted Death Eaters. Personally I think that is a very good idea. Azkaban is too good for people like that. Seriously, what's the point? Nowadays, the famed prison seems like a mere stop in centre for those wanting to join he who must not be named. So many Death Eaters have escaped, it seems the only way to duely punish them is by taking either their life or soul!

{Britta Verlose: Tales of a Notorious Seductress} The well known dark witch seen corrupting loved joker, Fred Weasley Britta Verlose, the well known associate of a convicted death eater, yesterday was caught trying to add the popular wizarding joke shop owner, Fred Weasley, to her little black book of failed dalliances. After such botched previous relationships with mislead, respectable gentlemen, she’s set out to destroy another good man with her manipulative charm and malicious ways.
Not just a frequent bed-guest of the country's wizards, when out of favour among the men, Miss Verlose turns to the fairer sex to satisfy her insatiable need for attention.
However, despite the reams of denunciations she’s received in the short time she’s plagued the country's beds, she doesn’t handle rejection well. One startled onlooker reported, “She once threw *{Name}*, a vampire of all things, out of the window! That’s some temper she’s got on her. She's mixed up.”
Verlose is clearly an experienced seductress and many have remarked on their concern for Mr Weasley in this surprising affair. All we can hope is that the terrific and successful business, Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, owned by the twins, Fred and George, does not suffer as a result of this ostentatious and self-important woman.

Dear Witch Weekly,
In the years before You-know-who's return, Ella Moonsine and other well known performers initiated the No Wands movement aimed at limiting the growth and dependence on using magic in the world. Ovbiously there is another greater, threat facing the world. In parts of the world a false support for the advancement of magical weaponry is being propagandized by governments and dictators, as leaders and governments position themselves for both local and global recognition.
Ella Moonshine and other performers can again awaken the youth and general populations of the world by initiating another No Wands movement. This movement may prevent future conflicts and save lives. In many ways I disagree with the positioning of celebrities in the endorsement of political parties. But a movement of this type provides a broad message and can only lead to a positive end.

{The Round Art} Astrology of Time and Space Astrology is a mirror of the life of Man in the Universe. Since the first wizards became conscious it has existed as a symbol system which has proven startingly central. It has attended the creation of civilizations and their destruction, interpenetrating them like a thread of Ariadne through a labyrinth of Time. Every world age has rediscovered astrology, adapted to its purposes and then abandoned it. Astrology, like Man himself, is capable of an infinite number of metamorphoses.
History is a representation of the stratified past of all the wizards which function within every individual, and astrology is a language which evokes history and its mechanisms. Man has passed through many transformations, from the instinctive reality of lower life forms up through the successive development of emotions, mind and spirit, and his wholeness is dependent upon each function occurring in its proper place. What in former civilizations were totem animals, gods and goddesses, or mythological heros are now so abstracted and intellectualized that man is in a very real danger of cutting off all connection from his roots and hence eliminating all possibility of achieving or regaining his original totality. Astrology is ideally suited for the task of understanding and realizing our lost totality. Astrology has at various times functioned as a time-keeping device and predecessor of the calendar; a basis for the cosmology of many major world followings; a repository for projected images of great witches and wizards; a synonymous term encompassing astronomy, geometry, mathematics and psychology; a prime diagnostic and therapeutic tool in medicine; and the mother of the mantic arts. As these represent central aspects of what we call civilization, the collective reality of man, they are ultimately reflections of our internal mechanisms attempt to define itself.

Dear Witch Weekly,
I work for the Ministry of Magic and I have seen a great improvement in standards since Mr Lucius Malfoy was voted into office. I and a few others would like to express our wish to instate Mr Malfoy straight into the Minister’s job. We believe that our county would be in a much better situation if we had a pure blood nationalist as Minister. Rufus Scrimgeour is no doubt doing his best but, personally, I do not believe he was ever right for the top job.

{The Trial of the Year} Vladislav’s freedom placed on the line On Tuesday the 7th August, a trial was held in Court Room 1 of the Ministry of Magic, the accused, one Bojan Vladislav. Mr Vladislav was suspected of having smuggled illegal dragon eggs into the country and was also believed to have had some relation to the murder of Croatian Ministry worker, Freddie Kaplinsky.
Shortly after the trial commenced, Vladislav’s questioning began, administered by another Croatian Ministry worker, Tomas Kroat, who claimed to have evidence that Vladislav was seen around the area where Kaplinsky was murdered. When asked where he had been on that night, Bojan said that he was home.
Witness for the Defence, Ophelia Fuilteach, was the next to be questioned by Kroat. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Miss Fuilteach was only asked one question, the same question that had been asked to Mr Vladislav only a few moments before. Her answer confirmed that, as Bojan had said, he had been at home with her on the night in question. With that, she was escorted from the court room.
The witness for the prosecution, Croatian Ministry worker, Lucas Borovich, was then escorted into the room. Having been the soul witness to the murder of Freddie Kaplinsky, Lucas was asked to describe what he saw the night of the murder. He replied, in short that he could not remember. Mr. Kroat told the Wizengamot that Borovich had told him much more than that before the trial had taken place but no matter how much he was coaxed, Borovich maintained that he could not remember a thing.
After discussion, the Wizengamot, represented by Dolores Jane Umbridge, declared that, due to lack of evidence, they believed Vladislav was innocent and should be released with no charge.
The fact that the one person who could vouch for Mr Vladislav wasn’t questioned more, must have made some wonder, myself included, about the fairness of the trial and how it would be possible for the Wizengamot to declare the defendant guilty or innocent from such a meager amount of evidence. Perhaps Ministry standards are slipping or maybe the whole case was a plot, intent on imprisoning an innocent man? A plot which, luckily for the Croatian dragon man, backfired on its architects?

Dear Witch Weekly,
Your article in the last edition really caught my attention. I never did very well in Divination at school but that may have been because I had that class with the most gorgeous lad in the year and I couldn’t take my eyes of him. Now, however, I’m a happily married woman and have decided to give it another go. I’m going to start attending evening classes in Diagon Alley and hopefully I’ll be able to have the wonderful experience I missed out on whilst at school.

The winner of Witch Weekly's Loveliest Hair award is:
Narcissa Malfoy {History of Wizarding Music: Fact or Fiction?} Is the history we're all expected to know, really as true as reported? There have been many descriptions of what history is, but there are probably as many ways of looking at the past as there are writers and historians prepared to look. This article aims to give a full social history of the music and artists we've come to love.
Music is unique among the fine arts in that it calls for a response not only from the head and the heart but also, frequently, from one or both feet and hands. It can be enjoyed gregariously or in solitude and has been described by notable warlock, Sydney Smithe, as "the only cheap and unpunished rapture upon earth."
But not everybody enjoys it. Questioning minds throughout the ages have been bothered by it. The ancient Greek wizards were not at all happy with some of the music which the populace was playing and singing, and decided that there was Good music and Bad music. The Greeks had a word for each mode into which their music was divided. Mixolydian and Hypolydian were reckoned to be fairly harmless, being rather gloomy and depressing: music for mourning. Hypodorian scraped by, being tender and gentle. Dorian was good music, being military, structured and masterful. The villan was music in the Lydian mode; this was Bad music, soft, sensual and capable of doing all manner of damage. This was the first evidence of the Dark Arts used in conjunction with music.
Besides those many people who objected to certain sorts of music for a reason, there were also a great number of people - including many eminent wizards - who detested every sort of music.
The majority of human beings are born with a capacity for enjoying some kind of music. This fact led to a surge of magical music in the 17th century. Evolved from the Greek idea of weaving Dark magic into music, wizards of the 1600s adapted Lydian music and began lacing the soft melodies and sensuous harmonies with spells and charms of both light and dark natures. It turned out to be a marvolous, yet highly destructive form of spell casting as it effected anyone in earshot of the music.
Now a days, magical music laws are very strict. Everyday singers are allowed only certain, very regulated amounts of magic in their songs and the Wizarding Wireless Network has a large department with bases all over the world, dedicated to the regulation of Magical Music.

{Halloween Mayhem} The Ministry’s struggle to keep law and order even at this festive time of year. The Halloween celebrations have begun again and recent studies show that the popular holiday is now the wizarding world’s second highest grossing holiday behind Christmas. Britain is expected to spend over 120 million galleons on festivities this year and Mr George Weasley of Weasley’s Wizarding Wheases told a Witch Weekly reporter that the business has collected its highest income ever in the past week.
However, the apparent murder of a woman found hanging in a tree, in a wizarding town near Cambridge, went ignored for hours because neighbours thought it was a Halloween decoration. The 42-year-old woman's body was suspended 15 feet from the ground at the side of a busy road in Delware on Sunday night. Locals noticed the body early on Sunday morning but dismissed it as a Halloween prank. "They thought it was a Halloween decoration," Fay, a local ministry official, told a local newspaper. "Really, it looked like something somebody would have rigged up. We realize now, it must have been another death eater attack" Ministry Law enforcers were eventually called later in the day and blocked off the scene.
This is a grim reminder that there are some that would ruin this happy celebration for everyone. A Ministry spokes wizard said, “Please don’t open the door to anyone unless you know who it is. We have supplied all wizarding residences with one way treat shoots so there is no need for you to open the door to any strangers at all.”

Fan Letter of the Week
Dear Witch Weekly,
I’m an amateur writer and I wanted to share one of my spooky stories with you. It would be really good if you’d print it in the Halloween edition.
Yes, I know its getting dark, and I know its getting cold, but just come over here for a minute. It wont take much of your time. There's something I want to show you, someone I'd like you to meet. Come on. Humor an old man who needs to tell his secret. It's just there, behind the church. Yes, in the older graveyard. You're not afraid are you? I promise, there's nothing here that would ever hurt you. Not you. Watch out for the moss on the stones. Some of the slimier varieties can get embedded in your clothes, and it's murder trying to get it out. Just about there is usually the best spot. Stand quietly now - let your eyes get adjusted to the dark. You'll soon see why I brought you here. There she is. Do you see her? She's standing right there. Look - in front of the large grey angel, just to the left of the patch of moonlight, almost underneath the old elm. Yes, there, beside the largest headstone. My beautiful Sarah. Forever young, forever twenty. See how the red of her hair glows like a burning firebrand, a halo around the white perfection of her face. And look - she's wearing the dress. The one I bought her for the dance, the last dance of our youth. Three pounds two and sixpence that dress cost me - more than a week's wages in those days. Times have changed, haven't they? My mother told me that I was mad, spending all that money on a slip of a girl who was no better than she should be. But I knew that she was worth every penny. I was drunk with the delight that danced in her eyes when she tried it on, swaying her hips to get the full effect from the long flowing pleats. I can still remember even now, fifty odd years and many strangers' kisses later, the sweet honeyed taste of her lips as she thanked me, the pressure of her hands on my back as we embraced. I wish she would touch me now. Just one touch, to bring us together at the end. If only she could see me. I have so much that I've never told her. How still she is, how composed. The wind refuses to ruffle her, the rain refuses to dampen her, the earth refuses to cling to her. Yet there's something more. Look closer. She breathes; she blinks; her lips part and then connect, but there's no steam. Not like you and I, standing here puffing at each other. It may be almost winter here, but for her it's late summer, always summer. Those lips. How deep and red and enticing they were that night, glistening moistly as she looked up at me. Smiling, dancing, laughing, we moved across the dance floor. We were young; the war had barely touched us, and I was in love for the very first time. The night held the prospect of many new pleasures. And then he arrived. I knew he was going to be trouble. Right from the start I could see what he was. American, charming, arrogant and different. Hello excitement, goodbye dependability. In the space of a minute I'd lost her forever. Shall I tell you how it happened? He butted in on our dance. Just barged right in, excused himself, and then off they went, whirling round the floor in a flurry of legs and feet and arms. I tried to stop him as they came round again, but he had all the advantages - height, weight, diet, composure and training - while I merely had my rage. Afterwards, as I lay there on the floor, my tongue counting teeth as my handkerchief vainly tried to soak up blood, I heard a laugh. Looking up through eyes which had already begun to puff up, I saw her. Only six feet away, but already distant, clinging to the conqueror. Her hair made a red scar where it fell on her shoulder, and in that moment I knew what I would have to do. Can you see? She's moving. But watch. Do her legs bend? Does she walk like you or me? Or does she glide, smooth and silent like a great white owl? Listen. Can you hear any gravel being trodden underfoot? Or is there only you and me and silence? You can't tell, can you? She deceives the brain, but doesn't brook too much attention. Try not to look too closely - set your mind on other matters. Ah yes. The chiming. It must be eight o'clock again. Do you think she's able to hear? She'll be heading for the wall. When she reaches it she'll rest her elbows and look over there, to the field on the left, where the airfield used to be. I remember the women, silent, waiting, listening for the sounds which would tell them that their men were coming back. They used to peel off one at a time as the planes returned, until only a few were left, watching and waiting and wondering. See how the moonbeams dance around her, making her glow. So white, so brilliant, so pure. And no shadow to taint the vision. He was corrupting her. I could see that, even from the few glimpses I had of them together. There they were, laughing and giggling like a pair of kids fresh out of school. And kissing! In public! Right there on the main street for all too see, and again, later, in the pub, flaunting themselves in front of me. Of course she had stockings. And lipstick. And chocolate. And cigarettes. The price of her innocence, the wages of sin. I hoped that I wouldn't be too late, that she was still capable of being saved. I watched. I waited. I planned. He continued with her destruction, but soon I'd have my turn. See how she moves between the stones, not attempting to pass through them. Does she look solid to you? You can't see through her, not like in the books or the films. Do you think that if I went over there and put out my hand she'd be able to take it, be able to feel? Would she notice that I was there? I have often, over the years, thought about why she returns. It is only now, when I'm near my own end, that I'm able to look at it dispassionately. Maybe, when I go to join her, we'll both understand. Did you know that I used to be a mechanic? Well I was, and a good one at that. It was easy. I already had the run of the airfield, so it was simple to wangle myself in on the servicing of his plane. Once I had spent five minutes aboard, it was only a matter of waiting for the next flight. I was subtle though. I didn't want the plane blowing up over land; not over England anyway. My work might have been noticed. No, the explosion would occur only when the plane climbed to more than one thousand feet. That should do it. By the time it reached that height it would be well out over the channel. He took it out the very night day. Look. She's reached the wall. See how her elbows stay white, despite the damp and moss and stone? Her eyes will be moist. Will those tears be real? Could I perhaps touch them? Touch them and somehow feel her pain? The next day I saw the flight take off, twelve planes slowly gathering in formation before beginning their long climb into the sky. I watched them until they rose into the clouds, then listened as they droned away. Was there an explosion? Did the droning lessen? I never did find out. Whether I'm a murderer or not, he never came back, and I never lost the guilt. Later that day, when the sky was once more filled with sound, the women left the wall, one by one, until she was the only one remaining, trying to pierce the clouds as she peered avidly eastwards, willing him to return. I stood, just about here, and watched, cursing her for her devotion, cursing him for his hold on her, as darkness fell and the skies grew silent. It was late summer, and the temperature was dropping rapidly. A light drizzle began to fall, chilling me to the bone. And still she waited, and still I watched. See it. There's the cigarette. How ungainly it looks in those pearl white fingers. It burns - there's a good quarter of an inch of ash on the end - but there's no smoke, no smell. He started her off on that habit. She'd told me that morning that she did it because it made her look like a real lady. As if she'd not been a lady before that. It made me angry, so angry that I could watch no longer. See how she turns, surprised. Now she'll look confused for a second. Then she'll see that it's only me; only the young, fresh faced, solid, dependable me. Watch closely now. You may just catch the disappointment as it flits across her face. Look, she turns her back again, returns to her vigil. One look and I was consigned to despair. I grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her around to face me, demanding that she explain herself. She struggled in my arms but I held on as we moved around in a parody of a waltz; held her as she screamed, her once-beautiful lips contorted in rage. She pulled away once more, and this time she was too strong for me to hold on to her. Surprised to be free so easily, she lost her balance. I reached out desperately for her as she fell, slowly, slowly, towards the unyielding gravestones. And then came the sound, the one I hear late at night in my dreams, the sound of her neck as it broke. So now we wait, she for a sweetheart who will never return, me for an end to the guilt and the hope of forgiveness. Which of us is more dead? And the time passes and I watch, every night, as she dances, just for me.

{War Hero Abandoned in his Bed} Mum of two tells how she was dumped for the cheating fiancee of crippled war hero. A ministry official's wife revealed last night how her husband ran off with the fiancee of acclaimed ex auror Peter Knights. Peter, 34, was in a closed ward at St Mungo's Hospital with appauling injuries, recieved in the battle with death eaters at the Ministry four years ago, when so-called comrade Phil Hatting began the affair. Phil's wife Sally-Ann, 33, who has now been forced out of her home with her two children, told Witch Weekly, "I'm still reeling at his betrayal. And talk about kicking a man when he'd down. Peter was supposed to be his best mate. They had fought side by side and this is how he repaid that friendship. It's disgusting."
Peter, seen by millions of Daily Prophet readers after his parents launched a campaign against his pitiful compensation has been in St Mungo's for 2 years since he woke up from the coma he was put in by a known death eater. Phil, 35, along with other members of the Auror office, visited Peter in hospital early last year.
Phil's wife Sally-Ann was full of sympathy especially as Peter's fiancee, Holly Wood, 28, was seven months pregnant at the time of the battle. She said, "My thoughts went out to Holly. How could she cope with her pregnancy when Peter was at death's door? My husband got in contact with Holly and said she could call on us any time. I wanted to see her, but Phil told me she wasn't ready for visitors."
But as Phil spent more time helping his friend, he drifted away from Sally-Ann and their two children. Sally-Ann said, "One day he refused to come along to a family day out because he said it wasn't right when his collegues were still out hunting death eaters. I took the children out to Diagon Alley but when we got home, he was having a boozy barbeque with his other friends. I started to worry that we were drifting apart so I decided to surprise him. I bought a bottle of wine, lit candles and glammed up. Phil had said he'd be back no later than 11pm but he didn't show up. So much for the romantic night I had planned. I fell asleep on the sofa waiting for him. He finally rolled in at 3.30am, claiming he'd been with his mates."
The couple began arguing upsetting not just their lives, but the stability of their children. Finally Phil blurted out that there was someone else but left without telling his wife anything more. Sally-Ann had no idea where he'd gone and couldn't get in contact with him, her owls returned unanswered. Eventually she turned the house over trying to find a clue as to who the mystery woman was. She found a stack of letters from Holly, Peter's fiancee. "They all seemed pretty innocent but something made me feel uneasy. I decided to come right out and ask her if she was sleeping with her husband. She was outraged and said: "Peter is seriously ill and I've got a three year old baby. Don't you think I've got enough to cope with?" I felt really awful."
However, whilst Holly was in the kitchen making tea, Phil's barn owl flew in with an unsealed note. Sally-Ann read it and to her dismay, found her fears confirmed. "The note was from my husband and was telling Holly that he'd left me and they could finally be together. It also detailed at least 5 occasions when they'd been together for which he'd given me completely innocent explinations; one of which, was that he'd been visiting Peter, Holly's crippled fiancee! I felt utterly betrayed. I left before Holly could come back in."
Sally-Ann and her two children are now living in a small flat in Colchester, struggling to make ends meet. She hasn't seen Phil since she divorced him in August, but has been supporting Peter through his recovery. He stated, "Despite what she's been through, Sally has been a better rock than either Phil of Holly ever were. If they are willing to betray the two people who really cared about them, then they're pathetic excuses for people and they deserve each other."

Lemon Meringue Pie
Reader Hannah with her Lemon Meringue Pie
Ingredients
For a 23cm/9in pie: For the pastry: 175g/6oz plain flour 15g/½oz icing sugar 75g/3oz butter 1 egg, yolk only 1 tbsp water For the filling: 2 large lemons 40g/1½oz cornflour 300ml/10fl oz water 2 egg, yolks only 75g/3oz caster sugar For the meringue: 3 egg, whites only 120g/4½oz caster sugar
For a 28cm/11in pie: For the pastry: 225g/8oz plain flour 25g/1oz icing sugar 100g/4oz butter 1 egg, yolk only about 2 tbsp water For the filling: 4 large lemons 75g/3oz cornflour 570ml/1 pint water 4 egg, yolks only 175g/6oz caster sugar For the meringue: 5 egg, whites only 225g/8oz caster sugar
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. 2. To make the pastry, measure the flour and sugar into a bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the egg yolk and water and work to a firm dough - this may, of course, be done in a processor. Wrap in cling film and leave to rest in the fridge for about 30 minutes. 3. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the pastry and use to line a 23cm/9in or 28cm/11in loose-bottomed, fluted flan tin. Prick the pastry lightly all over with a fork, line with greaseproof paper, fill with baking beans and bake blind in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until the pastry is pale golden and dried out, removing the paper and beans for the last 5 minutes. 4. Lower the oven heat to 150C/300F/Gas 2. 5. To make the filling measure 10fl oz/275ml cold water into a jug, and spoon the cornflour and sugar into a bowl. Add enough of the water to mix the cornflour to a smooth paste. 6. Pour the rest of the water, and the lemon zest into a small pan. Let this come to the boil then slowly pour it onto the cornflour, carefullly mixing it until you have a smooth paste. 7. Return the mixture to the saucepan and bring back to the boil, still mixing. 8. Simmer very gently for about one minute, stirring all the time to prevent it from catching. Then remove the pan from the heat and beat in the egg yolks, lemon juice and, finally, the sugar. 9. Pour the lemon mixture into the pastry shell and spread it out evenly. 10. For the meringue, whisk the egg whites in a large bowl with an electric whisk until they form stiff peaks. Whisk in the caster sugar, a spoonful at a time, whisking well and at a high speed between each addition. Spoon the meringue over the top of the lemon filling, spreading it out evenly and swirling it into peaks. Make sure there are no gaps. 11. Bake at the lower oven temperature for about 45 minutes for the 23cm/9in pie and about 1 hour for the 28cm/11in pie of until the meringue is crisp and pale beige on the outside and soft and marshmallowy underneath. 12. Serve warm or cold.

{Law Enforcers' Secret Strike} The deparetment of magical law enforcement plan secret strike over 2.5 per cent pay rise
Thousands of magical law enforcers are threatening covert industrial action over pay.
Aurors and hit wizards, who are legally barred from going on strike, say some colleagues plan to refuse to work on their days off and will owl in sick.
The secret wildcat action would hit community law enforcement, paperwork, school safety and the issuing of fines. Foot patrols in some areas could also be reduced.
Enforcers are threatening not to work on their days off or do compulsory overtime. They say they may suffer bouts of so-called "blue flu" and fail to turn up for work if they have even the slightest hint of illness.
It could lead to officers refusing to escort Rufus Scrimgeour and fellow Ministers to and from their destinations. Enforcers are also currently working overtime to cope with prisoners housed in Azkaban cells under emergency Ministry measures to combat jail overcrowding.
The pay row escalated last night after Scrimgeour's Home Secretary refused to backdate a below-inflation 2.5 per cent pay rise to September 1.
It is now being paid from December 1, saving the Government 40million galleons and effectively reducing the annual increase to just 1.9 per cent, less than half the 4.2 per cent inflation rate.
Strike action by enforcement officers is illegal under the 1896 Law Act and they are not allowed to join a trade union. But this week, the Department of Magical Law Enforcement Federation, the association representing rank-and-file officers, is to stage its first national ballot asking its members if they want the right to strike.
Federation branches have told Witch Weekly that their members plan to take "selective action" in protest at the pay snub.
If the unofficial walkouts take place, it would be the biggest confrontation between the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and any Ministry of Magic for 15 years.
On Wednesday, representatives of 177,000 enforcers, clerks to some of the most senior Aurors in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, are staging a mass meeting at the Ministry of Magic to protest about the pay deal.
A senior Federation source said last night: "Our dedicated law enforcers from all over Britain have been left in the dark over their pay. They feel deceived and let down."
Shadow Secretery to the Minister said: "It is a sign of spectacular incompetence that the Ministry and Home Secretary have managed to offend one of the most important groups of public servants with their extremely poor handling of this pay round."
A Home Office spokeswoman said: "The Ministry is grateful for the vital and hard work which law enforcers carry out every day. We believe that effective pay arrangements for law enforcers are essential for a modern Department of Magical Law inforcement."
This revolutionary attitude couldn't have come at a worst time. Death Eater activites are at an all time high and Azkaban break out rates are the highest ever. In this troubled time, many wonder whether this strike action is a clever rouse, set by He Who Must Not Be Named, to leave the wizarding world weak and unprotected.

Haggis
Ingredients
1 sheep's stomach or ox secum, cleaned and thoroughly, scalded, turned inside out and soaked overnight in cold salted water heart and lungs of one lamb 450g/1lb beef or lamb trimmings, fat and lean 2 onions, finely chopped 225g/8oz oatmeal 1 tbsp salt 1 tsp ground black pepper 1 tsp ground dried coriander 1 tsp mace 1 tsp nutmeg water, enough to cook the haggis stock from lungs and trimmings
Method
1. Wash the lungs, heart and liver (if using). Place in large pan of cold water with the meat trimmings and bring to the boil. Cook for about 2 hours. 2. When cooked, strain off the stock and set the stock aside. 3. Mince the lungs, heart and trimmings. 4. Put the minced mixture in a bowl and add the finely chopped onions, oatmeal and seasoning. Mix well and add enough stock to moisten the mixture. It should have a soft crumbly consistency. 5. Spoon the mixture into the sheep's stomach, so it's just over half full. Sew up the stomach with strong thread and prick a couple of times so it doesn't explode while cooking. 6. Put the haggis in a pan of boiling water (enough to cover it) and cook for 3 hours without a lid. Keep adding more water to keep it covered. 7. To serve, cut open the haggis and spoon out the filling. Serve with neeps (mashed swede or turnip) and tatties (mashed potatoes).

[/li][/ul] Editor’s Note Dear Readers,
I'm going to take this oppertunity to talk about the wonderful sales in Diagon Alley. The shop-keepers have really pushed the boat out this year and the whole street is awashed with colour. Not only are the shops wonderfully decorated, the sale prices are abosloutely fantastic! Flourish and Blotts have put all their stock on sale for less than half price. As have many of the other shops including, Twilfitt and Tattings, Eylops Owl Imporium and Culpepper's Apothecary. I really would take this oppertunity to head out and buy everything you can possibly afford while these amazing offers stand.

{Tripping the Night Fantastic} The innermost workings of Lord Dante Fuilteach, a real interview with a vampire. It was Sunday the 20th of January when I first approached Lord Dante Fuilteach for an interview. After the brutal vampire attack in Diagon Alley only a few days ago, I wanted to give a real life vampire a chance to put his point of view across. As it was, Lord Fuilteach had written back within the hour and we arranged to meet the following evening in a popular public house. I arrived at our meeting place at quarter to nine on the evening of our interview and a few minutes later, Dante walked in, looking exquisite in a black leather frock coat and a white silk shirt. I wasn't sure how I'd be recieved but he was very polite and greeted me with the upmost of respect, asking me to call him Dante instead of by his title. He jokingly said, "The title's only important when I want to impress." We began the interview pretty rapidly and Lord Fuilteach made me feel completely comfortable asking my questions. I began by asking him how old he was. We've all heard the stories that vampires live longer than humans but I wanted to separate fact from fiction. Dante replied, "My father is over two hundred years old and doesn't look a day over thirty-five. I myself am twenty-seven. There are two types of vampires - made, and born. I was born a half-vampire, as my mother was a witch. I was never a great shakes at magic, so I asked an old friend to fully change me." Finding that rumour to be true and becoming increasingly intrigued in the differences between vampires and humans, I continued to ask, "So, how exactly is a vampire made? I take it that just being bitten doesn't make one a vampire?" Dante chuckled, passing that legend off as being "Myth and legend from a demented Muggle author with bad dreams." I wasn't initially sure if he'd want to answer my question but nevertheless, he replied, "It is a long process, and very dangerous. It can kill the mortal involved if their blood and will is not strong enough to carry them through. Say, for example, I wished to turn you into a vampire. I would bite your throat and drain your blood to the point of death. Then, you would have to drink as much of my blood as you could possibly contain. As I said, dangerous, and not for the faint-hearted. The one failsafe method is to be born a vampire." I was pleasantly surprised that Lord Fuilteach wasn't opposed to answering my questions about his kind so I went on to ask the ultimate vampire question although I had an idea what the answer would be already, considering our interview had been arranged for after nightfall. "Is it true that vampires can't venture out during daylight? And if it is, what do you generally do during the daylight hours?" Dante smiled as if he was used to this particular question and answered, "We have a proclivity towards sleep during the hours of daylight. Sunlight burns our skin, and makes us weak. If I were to walk out into the middle of the Sahara desert under the noon sun, I would die within seconds. One of the greater disadvantages of my kind, but not something we mind. My sister is still a half-vampire, and she can go out in daylight if she wears a heavy cloak to keep sunlight from her skin. Most inconvenient in summer, but not so much that she grumbles." Lord Fuilteach's sister, Ophelia, recently married famed dragon keeper Bojan Vladislav in a beautiful ceremony near the Fuilteach family home in Ireland. I'm sure all you ladies will agree that Mrs Vladislav is one lucky woman, despite her aversion to sunlight. After getting the main questions out of the way, I jokingly asked, "How about the whole garlic thing?" Dante laughed and told me that garlic gives him indigestion although he strongly feels that garlic is overused in cookery. I studied his face. It was strange, he didn't look that different but there was definitely something that marked him out from all the others in the pub. Now ladies, down to the part of the interview we've all been waiting for. ""Well, enough about vampires...what about you? I'm sure all my readers would love to know, is there a Mrs. Dante Fuilteach?" A shadow crossed Dante's face before he replied, "At one time, there could have been. The woman I loved is no more." I felt guilty for causing this seemingly flawless creature obvious pain, but just then he gave me a dazzling smile and continued, charmingly, "Although a beautiful person to ease my wounded heart would be gladly welcomed." After seeing that dazzling smile I couldn't help but ask, "Do you find women are more or less attracted to you than human men?" I smiled waiting for his answer, taking in his appearence, the image of perfection. He shrugged casually, saying, "I certainly turn more heads than most mortal men, or indeed women. I think it's the silk shirts, to be honest. Our bodies become more like white marble with every year we live, so you should see the muscles I'm hiding under the gladrags. If I really wanted, I could make every person in this room fall in love with me on sight, but it's a vampire trick to lure you in close." He gave me another easy smile before saying lightly, "But trust me, I think it's the silk shirt that does it." Sadly, by this point my time was running out and I had to wind up the interview. My last question, I felt was the most poignient. "Do you find the wizarding world in general accepts you for who you are?" Dante looked a little upset but took a deep breath and replied, "Honestly? No. I went to Hogwarts for three years, and every moment was horrific. Everyone gave me a wide berth, students, teachers and even the ghosts. Female students thought a bit of heaving bosom would have me foaming at the mouth. Male students wondered if... well, I won't be graphic. Vampires are still viewed as predators, which is hurtful. It's rare that I will actually hurt someone while feeding, and even rarer that I would kill. I take what we call the Little Drink, just enough to slake my thirst and nothing more. I have a network of people who are willing to donate blood for me to drink. I'm not a monster. I was born half-mortal, and my mother was a witch. I respect human life." Now I, for one, feel a lot safer after hearing Lord Fuilteach's account of his species, drinking habits and lifestyle. Dante was nothing but polite and aimiable throughout our interview and even after prying into his personal affairs, I have exactly the same volume of blood I set out with. I believe we can learn a lot from our nocturnal co-species and despite rare incidents like the unfortunate death of the last week, the vampire species as a whole seem like civilized and misunderstood beings who deserve more from us than an irrational, deep set fear. Fan Letter of the Week
Dear Witch Weekly,
Thank you so much for last week's Spell of the Week. I love flying but tend to stay indoors during the winter when the winds pick up. I have quite an old model of broom and it usually doesn't handle very well in rough weather but with your spell me and my son were able to enjoy hours of fun in the field behind our house.
Thanks a lot,
Jessica Hamilton from Shropshire

On the 5th of February 2008, I was first approached by a certain ex-girlfriend of Lord Dante Fuilteach, the vampire who had so impressed us all in the last edition of Witch Weekly Magazine. Alexa, as she is know to her friends, was more than happy to expose the real story about the fanged fop.
“He’s a real daddy’s boy,” she told me, when we met for drinks. “The big bad vampire thing is just an act. As you read, Dante hardly mentioned his father, Lord Sanguini Fuilteach, in his interview with me, a month prior. Obviously, he’s happy to disown even his family to portray a sense of strength. This got me thinking. If he was so brief about someone who obviously means a lot to him, surely he could have failed to mention other important aspects of his life.
”He a scaredy cat,” she continued, laughing. She obviously found Dante’s cowardly nature very amusing, as is befitting of a vampire who relies on his father for support. As I became more curious, I began asking questions, mainly to do with Alexa and Dante’s relationship.
“So, how did you and Dante meet? How long have you known each other?” I asked, wondering if she really knew as much about him as she claimed to. She answered my question, not with a date, but with a time scale. “We met when he came to the manor to find his sister. I hated him from the start but he kept on and on at me, trying to win me over. Then once we were together, he tried to kill me! From this it became obvious that they had indeed known each other for a considerable time.
"Kill you?”
I asked. “How?" I waited for her response, quill poised over the paper, ready to write everything down. I knew that you, my readers, love a scandal. “He bit me,” she replied, obviously still shaken by the ordeal. “I only survived because my best friend walked in and saved me.” Now, you will probably be shocked to read this, as I was to hear it, especially after Dante himself painted a picture of innocence and harmlessness. Still, from the way that Alexa spoke so timidly of the affair, I knew her story to be true. Although I believed her, I still wanted to know more. "Why did he bite you? Was it just vampire instinct?" I asked, only now realising how much danger I’d put myself in by agreeing to meet with this dangerous being. “Vampire instinct my ass. He was jealous. Jealous of a man who was nothing more than my best friend,” she replied, confirming my theories on his volatile nature. At this point I asked her to elaborate. After all, Dante had seemed so nice, and I knew you, my readers, would want proof to the contrary. “He hated the fact that I was friends with Kris. Plus he hated that Kris was so much stronger than him whenever they fought.” By that point, I was convinced that the man I had taken for a civilized, respectable humanoid, was no more than a savage beast who couldn’t control his temper or overactive emotions. Still, as you know, I always try to find the best in everyone, even when they have been proven to be a liar and dangerous. “Surely there must have been some good points?” I asked, trying to stay positive, although visibly shaken. “I hear sex with a vampire is unrivalled?” I was almost sure Alexa would break down and tell me that in fact, she did miss Dante and that he had, for a short time, made a wonderful partner, but no. Instead she replied, “The sex was ok, but I've had better. I just want people to know it's all an act....he's a nasty piece of work.” With such finality, I had no choice but to believe every word she said. At that point I decided to bring the interview to a close. After all, I had all the evidence that I needed to prove to you, my loyal readers, that vampires, especially Lord Dante Fuilteach, are not all that they seem. After reading this article and with the undoubted proof provided by past vampire attacks, I’m sure you’ll remember to think twice when venturing out alone at night.[/blockquote][/blockquote] The Life and Times of a Centaur Hogwarts’ first non human staff member, Firenze the centaur, speaks out about his race and job. Q Were you born in Hogwarts’ forest, as the legends say?
A Yes. The forest has always been my home. I was always very compassionate as a foal. The others would mock the humans from the school, but I never would, due to certain experiences in my life.
Q Certain experiences?
A Yes...when I was still a young foal I met a rather amazing student. She was a human, and all of my herd was against the friendship. The more we talked the more I realized that humans and centaurs were not all that different. Then of course, there was the time when I helped Harry Potter in the forest, which is part of the reason why my herd continued to think ill of me until my exile.
Q So you believe centaurs share traits with humans?
A Oh yes...we have two arms, two eyes, a complex medulla oblongata...but besides the physical, I've found that humans, if they are not lazy, are just as capable of having the Sight as centaurs. I have a few promising students in my class now.
Q So, the Sight is very important to centaurs? Do you value humans, like me, who don't have a very strong gift for Divination?
A Yes, of course...humans without the Sight can still be beneficial to their herd...I just relate with humans with the Sight a lot more.
Q You mentioned you position as a teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Do you enjoy your job there?
A Yes, although after I agreed to the position my herd soon-after banished me. I do wish I could have been loyal to both Hogwarts and my herd, but that is not possible at the moment. I miss the beauty and mystery of the forest...and I always will.
Q Surely your teaching position has helped bridge the gap between humans and centaurs?
A I can only hope it has...but we have a long way to go. There are masses on both sides that will never agree anytime soon. Q If you had the choice now, would you leave Hogwarts and return to your herd, or would you stay living and working along side the humans in the school?A I am needed at Hogwarts, so I would choose Hogwarts. Times have changed and no one is safe anymore, I am happy to be of any help to humans.Q Finally, I'm sure all my readers are dying to know if centaurs have girlfriends...or marefriends if you like? You know, you'd be quite a catch for a certain lucky horse lover. A No...I don't have a significant other, I was always a loner to my kind and I doubt that any humans would want to be with me, especially due to my workaholic nature.Spell of the Week This week’s spell is the Unbreakable Charm. It’s used to make objects unbreakable by all physical means. It’s very useful around the kitchen for protecting the contents of various jars and containers. {Schoolboy Hero} How Sebastian Bordeaux stopped a petty argument becoming a full blown riot! “Noelle Cheever, a beautiful blonde part-veela, who happens to be a close friend of mine, was recently engaged to George Weasley, one half of the Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes joke shop duo. Their engagement was expected by everyone around them, but behind closed doors they just didn't have that elusive spark; staring into each other eyes for far too long, trembling whenever the other is near, everything you long for in that special someone. However, when Noelle met Devlin Wilkes, the famous Falmouth Falcons Quidditch player, she was swept off her feet, not thinking of her engagement.
Their whirlwind affair had barely taken off when George was rudely presented with the sight of his darling fiancée, Noelle, in the arms of Devlin, in open public display. Before anyone knew what was happening, Weasley attacked Wilkes like a common muggle, fists and teeth bared.
By the time I arrived, they were bloody and battered, having forsaken all their dignity. I decided it was my duty, to protect other members of the public, and my friends, so I bound them up with magic ropes and removed their wands from them. Of course, I was only looking out for others, but I was greatly praised for separating the sparring pair, and I vividly remember the famous Devlin Wilkes thanking me personally for my intervention and shaking my hand. Noelle kissed both my cheeks in thanks. After all, she felt immensely guilty about everything. Michelle Binx finished the night perfectly by buying a round of drinks in my honour! Of course it's all a bit foggy.” Taste for the Tasteful Blackberry Tart Ingredients- 1 sheet of puff pastry
