*The Sorting Ceremony has ended, and all first years have been sorted into the appropriate Houses. Headmaster Snape rises from his seat at the professors table, and moves swiftly to the podium to begin his speech. His black eyes pass over the sea of young faces, waiting until all have ceased talking, and are ready to listen.*
*Before he begins his cold gaze lingers on a few students in particular as a warning to keep quite while he is speaking. To ensure he has everyone's attention he taps his wand against the edge of the podium. Finally it is so quiet one could hear a pin drop.*
Your precious summer holiday has passed by very quickly, and now we find ourselves beginning a new chapter in your magical education. Three words: Start of term. These words often raise two emotions within the students and staff of Hogwarts, dread and excitement. Either way, start of term means that your magical education is go, and all must be on board. Start of term may be seen as a time for your horizons to unfold steadily, and now more than ever the lessons you will learn within these stone walls could be the lessons that very well save your life. Everyday the wizarding world grows much darker. It would be wise in these times to heed my advice, and keep your noses to your texts. Do as your professors ask, and gain the power of knowledge. We all need to unite together within the walls of this castle, and find harmony with each other.
*The sounds of sniggering reaches his ears, and he pauses, focusing his cold stare on the entire student body. The moment the room regains it's previous state of silence he resumes.*
Everyone inside this castle, this country is affected by the darkness trying to consume us. If we all work together we can create a light so bright it cannot be penetrated.
With that having been said, I now will explain a few rules that are going to be set out before you. No one is allowed into the Forbidden Forest. There are creatures, and magical powers that young novices such as yourself would be overpowered by with ease. There have been few whom have entered, only to never return. You are warned. Mr. Filch, our caretaker has asked me to mention there is an all campus ban on any items purchased at Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, and a whole host of other items which will be listed, and posted in every common room, and also just outside of the Great Hall.
It is now time for me to introduce the new members that have joined our teaching staff this term.

First of all, joining us this year is Mr. Shacklebolt, he will be the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. Herbology and Healing Lessons will be taught by Miss Maynard. Followed by Miss Carrow whom will be teaching Muggle Studies this term. Professor Trelwany will be replaced this year by Miss Brown, she will be teaching Divination. Our new Ancient Runes professor is Professor Shunasazzi, and lastly we have Miss Bell the new teacher for Flying Lessons, and overseer of Quidditch practices.
*After everyone has had the opportunity to see whom is teaching what, Severus calls attention to himself once more by tapping his wand against the podium again.*
In addition to the new professors, we also have a new Head Girl, and Head Boy whom I would like to introduce. Miss Olivia Lillywhite from Gryffindor House, and Master Julian Montenegro from Slytherin. Now that all the introductions have been completed, the feast served, and speech given I invite you all to tuck in, and eat to your heart's content.
