*Dinah was delighted and flushed with unselfconscious pride having been able to shove the slytherin boy aside and get away with it. However, her delight soon turned into a dense concentration as she was trying to avoid getting hit in the head by the runes that were flying all over the classroom. In an effort to focus on the task at hand she flung her own set of runes at the floorspace in front of her and stepped back to examine the results.*
*And the result was...incomprehensable. Different letters were scattered around her, and while she recognized some of them she had no clue as to how she was meant to piece them together. Dinah did as she always used to do at such times. She stared fiercedly at the runes, trying to pretend that she was working while waiting for a miracle to materialize.*

*Alan slowly walked around the classroom to survey the work that was being done. He nodded encouragingly to the ones who were trying their best and frowned slightly at the few students who seemed less than enthusiastic about their challenge. He knew that his subject had the reputation of being somewhat boring, and for the life of it he could not understand why. As he wandered around he halted next to the Gryffindor boy who did not look impressed about what they were doing and were muttering something about divination and failing.*
Mr. Archer, I assure you that Ancient Runes is one of the easiest subjects you’ll have here at Hogwarts. No complicated wandwork is required; all you have to do is pay attention in class and I’m sure you’ll be doing just great. And you should know by now that you can study runes from a divination point of view, but this is only a small, albeit an interesting part of it. As a matter of fact my runes told me only last week to look out for a Gryffindor student who would love the idea of extra homework to help him achieve his full potential.
*He continued to walk around and stopped again to look at Ellie Waters' results.*
Oh, this is interesting! You have come up with Is, Nyd and Ur. They represent the runes of the present, the future and the past. Now Ms. Waters, what do you make of this?

*He sat silently, wondering what in Merlin's beard these stones were meant to mean. He hadn't the slightest clue and was slowly growing more frustrated with them, though stubbornly was not going to ask anyone for help.*

Ellie stared bewildered at the rune signs in front of her. She couldn't tell which was which, let alone find a secret meaning in them.
- Hmmmmaybe, they say that I have a past, a present, and a future?, she said hesitant. - Why did he pick me?, she thought, - There must be others who do have a clue about this stuff.
Ellie continued to prattle, trying to mask her ignorance. - Everyone has a past, present and future, isn't it? Where do the stones say what it is? How can one single symbol say anything at all?
She looked helplessly around at the other students.
