*passes out the syllabus and a supplementary text*

Unfortunately your second year of NEWT is going to go faster than your first.

[Alison O'Sullivan]

*enters the class half-heartedly, not seeing the use of Defence against the Dark Arts at all*
*spots Kai, sighs shirtily, and takes a seat far away from his chatter, nodding to the Professor*

Good morning, Professor Giles.

[Kai Jones]

Ali-ii-son! *he sings*

*straightens his tie*

Ready for the workload?

*waves the syllabus at her*

[Alison O'Sullivan]

*gives a tense smile at him, sits down and looks expectantly at the professor, while twirling one of her golden locks around her finger*

[Kai Jones]

*not getting a real answer, stands up and moves to the seat next to her*

[Julian Montenegro]

*Strolls in late and takes a seat toward the back, annoyed that there are only Hufflepuffs*

*Wishes that Hogwarts taught Dark Arts and not just about the defending against it*

[Professor Giles]

*looks up from his desk*

Ah, had a good summer, Julian?

[Julian Montenegro]

*Pulls out only one thing, a quill, and places it lazily on his desk*

It was stimulating, I suppose.

*Assumes he knows his name because the Professors always like to talk about their students*

[Sélène Bordeaux]

**silently hopes Julian will notice her presence soon enough**

**sighs a long feminine sounding sigh, admiring how unprepared he always is to class**

[Professor Giles]

*claps his hands together, calling class together*

Ok, let us begin. We have a lot to get through this year so we are going to hit the ground running. But first, a review of last year, yes, Ms Bordeaux can you give me one thing you learned well last year and one thing you would like me to review again.

[Bronagh Edgeworth]

*Strolls lazily into the classroom, already bored, and extremely late for term, a death in the family the cause of her tardiness. Her eyes pass over her fellow Slytherin, roll at the sight of Hufflepuffs, and land on an empty seat in the back of the classroom. Quietly she tip-toes her way over, trying not to draw too much attention, and slips into the available seat.*

*nods to the late student to sit*

[Bronagh Edgeworth]

*Smiles brightly to the professor, happy she doesn't have to go on about her auntie dying to yet another person. She drops her bag on the floor, uncaring, and stifles a yawn. Deciding to act like she cares about the class, she attempts to focus her attention forward, to the professor.*

[Sélène Bordeaux]

**answers the Professor rather quietly, looking over at Julian from time to time**

At Beauxbatons we touched on most magical creatures and we had a huge test on dragons at the end of my 5th year. We did basic Defence spells as well, Protego and others like it.

I would like to review more protective spells in case of attack, Professor.

**glances at the late Slytherin student**

[Professor Giles]

*nods*

Excellent, protective spells it is then for the first few weeks at least.

*takes out his roster*

Miss, Edgeworth is it? Can you give me a short quib on what you learned last year?
