A strange thing has happened in the Wizarding World. Azkaban has disappeared.
Rufus Scrimgeour can't see it. Harry Potter can't see it. Even Mad Eye Moody with his special glass eye can't see it.
But there are some that can.
Overnight between the 31st December and 1st of January, Voldemort managed to cloak the whole of Azkaban with a magic so Dark it even caused a very short supernatural lunar eclipse - which will cause an onset of panic among the Wizarding World and excitement among his followers as the news starts filtering through. Nobody knows why or how or who is behind it for a fact, though suspicions are of course falling to 'He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named' and his followers.
Previously, the security of Azkaban was already a controversial issue when one by one, the incarcerated Death Eaters escaped, initiating a huge operation from the Ministry to find them - sadly they have not managed to recapture any of the Death Eaters.
This now has left another huge problem in the Wizarding World, apart from the obvious. There is nowhere to put any prisoners - even if there are a few holding cells in the basement of the Ministry, this surely won't be enough to hold the wanted Death Eaters once and if they are caught, and neither is the security strong enough yet to hold them.
Even more terrifying, the Dementors are still the Guards of the invisible Azkaban. They still lurk around the area as well as appear in the Wizarding communities to feed off the very little remaining happiness. No longer do they answer to the Ministry, their master is always the one who controls Azkaban.
Lord Voldemort's followers have promptly turned Azkaban into a 'training grounds and base' for Death Eaters and for his Dark creatures, under Voldemort's instructions. Voldemort has renamed the new Azkaban 'Novus Universitas' meaning 'New World' to aid him in his quest of cleansing the Wizarding World of all impurities - Mudbloods and Muggles. 'A new world, a pure world' has become the mantra of the Death Eaters and their leader, their obsession. Novus Universitas has become almost a code name for the project among the Death Eater circle. The newer, younger Death Eaters will now have somewhere private and 'safe' to be trained for battle if there was ever to come one and to become as powerful as the Superiors (highest ranking Death Eaters).
Voldemort's Lair is nearby, on the very chilly Northern coast of Scotland in an old gutted home where an old Muggle couple lived. The couple were destroyed months ago by Voldemort because he wanted their home, the nearest place to live to his new 'Novus Universitas' project.
Though he is not often there, it remains a place for the Death Eaters private meetings and reportings to their Lord.
He often comes by to the new Azkaban to oversee the activities and watch the progress.
The previous quietness and seemingly lacking amount of activity from Lord Voldemort all year had lulled Harry and his friends into a false sense of security. Luckily for them, the Order have been a little more prudent and have been desperately trying to gather together more Aurors and useful information about the Death Eaters. However there is a distinct lack of Aurors these days - many have either been murdered or have fled with their families in terror and turned their back on the Order for fear. It is not a job many step up to do, and one that requires much strength, skill and determination.
Harry, as he has always done, insists that he wants to become an Auror and after much of the Trio persuading and pleading with Lupin and Tonks, the Order will finally agree to train the young members of Dumbledore's Army. This is to be much to the horror of Molly Weasley and a few other of the DA members' parents who have become more and more worried about their childrens' safety.
Molly attempts to contact Severus Snape in a bid to get him to take an Unbreakable Vow to protect Harry and her children. Whether he responds in her favour is yet to be seen. The Order also need to work quickly in finding a new base for their training and their headquarters, since they have seen Death Eaters watching and flanking Grimmauld Place. The most feasible place they can think of is Hogwarts, but this is still being considered, much to the frustration of a few of the Order who think they are loosing precious time with the slow decision-making.
On another level, Lord Voldemort has managed to collect the Ressurection Stone from the place at Hogwarts where Dumbledore had it hidden, possibly thanks to an insider.
Voldemort has heard of the Hallows and it not only has interested him, but he aims to use it in a plan for Harry.
His previous desire to destroy Harry has taken rather a u-turn. The truth is that Voldemort fears Harry's powers, for they are unknown to him and he doesn't understand them. Instead, Voldemort now wants Harry to work with him side by side. A first attempt to do this would be for him to tempt him with the Hallows. There is hardly a man alive who cannot be tempted with them for they hold great powers.
Unfortunately, Voldemort does not know that Harry already owns one of the Hallows. The most important Hallow for either Voldemort or Harry to possess now is the Elder Wand. Harry has yet to find out about the Elder Wand. Once Harry learns about the Hallows through a book that Dumbledore leaves him in his Will, it becomes a race for him to seek the Elder Wand before Voldemort finds it, the last Hallow that could change the course of history if it falls into the wrong hands.
Voldemort's plan, should tempting Harry with the Hallows and offering Harry all that he desires in his heart fails, would be one not so... nice. An arrangement to kidnap the people that Harry cares about is in place, and a heartwrenching blackmail is involved. This however is just a backup plan for now, as Voldemort has learnt his mistake of lack of foresight, or so he thinks.
Meanwhile at the Ministry, the pressure is on. Corruption and doubt is failing all procedures at the Ministry. Scrimgeour is desperate for Harry's help but Harry continues to turn him down. This has proved to lower Harry's popularity even further; people are claiming he cannot be the one to save them if he repeatedly turns down the only remaining influential establishment in Wizarding UK. This is much to the amusement and enjoyment of Lucius Malfoy, who continues to bully Arthur Weasley, but much to the frustration of Harry's friends who think he needs to re-build relations with the Ministry and swallow his pride to win back his popularity. Harry continues to stand firm, causing tension within the trio, but pushing Hermoine and Ron closer together as they try their hardest to support their best friend through the hardest and darkest of times, times that have already been set in motion...
