"Don't count yourself out too soon, Theo. You just may find a rare witch to ensnare your heart. Your father can only plan your life to a certain extent, ultimately the choice is yours." Roslyn was a firm believer in determining ones own destiny. Perhaps she was so free spirited, because she'd grown up differently. She certainly had never had any parents around to dictate this and that. Her father hisself didn't lead the best example of a man loving a woman. He chose strangers before blood, because he was more emotionally attached. Children and the like. So why on earth should blood status make a single bit of difference in who you married? That was the one thing she could say she learned from the man, regardless of if he knew or not.
Thinking carefully on Theo's question, Roslyn shrugged. "Marriage isn't something I find at the top of my list of things to do. If I died without experiencing it, I wouldn't say I missed much anyway. You can still do all things without a piece of paper. Love isn't confined to such a thing. But to answer your question, if I ever did marry, it would be for love. Only to let the world know I was taken, and they were mine. Personally, I don't wish for it at all. I don't wish to be stuck with someone and risk looking down the road twenty years later, wishing I could go back if things were to ever go sour. I think I'd prefer being happy alone, or with the occasional stranger."
It wasn't that Roslyn was against marriage itself, as mentioned she'd seen a perfect example of how well it could work with her grandparents. But not everyone was so lucky, and perhaps she was just scared she would be one of the unlucky few. But one thing she knew, was that marriage was a lifetime commitment. If she married it would be for the rest of her life. And she wasn't willing to risk being stuck honoring vows another had broken or disregarded.

Theo knew the choice was his when it came to marriage. It wasn't as though he'd ever done anything to make his father happy, this would be no different. But, Theodore would still likely marry for the reasons of blood. He wasn't the sort to fall in love. "Perhaps...", was all he offered in return. Highly doubtful it was Theodore would find a woman to steal his heart. He usually didn't stick around long enough to get attached in any way.
"You know," Theodore leaned forward against the table as he spoke, "We two are very much alike." Everything Roslyn said basically fit in line with Theo's thinking. Spending time alone certainly was more appealing than spending a life with someone you might not like all that much. "At least we'll never be surprised by someones change of heart.

Laughing a bit, Roslyn shook her head. "We are quite like minded. That's why we cliqued in the first place, Theo. You and I are people who refer to logic and experience, to silly fantasies of things that may never come." Tracing the rim of her cup, she raised it to her lips to sip lightly. True enough she and Theo had their differences, but it was comforting to share common ground with someone.
"Odd though isn't it? All the things we have in common. I would wonder why you and I were never friends before now, though... I suppose it's all down to trust isn't it? Even now. Your trust is very fragile, though you are putting forth a good effort."

"Trust is only a part of the whole, m'dear. That whole thing with being from two very different worlds is another factor." Theo gently set his fork down, and leaned on his elbows. "This harmonious collision here is a rare phenomenon." With the way each of them were raised and saw the world, the fact they were sitting across from each other of their own free will, and enjoying it to boot, was improbable.
He leaned backed, watching as the witch drank from her glass, and he had to quiet the sudden stirring within. Intellectual and physical compatibility, being only friends was really going to be hard. Theo diverted his gaze in order to keep perspective.

"When rare things happen Theo, it's only proof that we can't expect too much of anything. Because life being the way it is, is sure to throw a surprise." Smiling, Roslyn leaned her chin against her hand. "Besides, I like to think we in general are rare phenomenons. When's the last time anyone truly understood you, Theo? I can assure you I've yet to meet someone who see's things in my point of view, precisely. Though... you can come pretty close at times. When you're not being a prat." Joking good natured, she laughed.
"There's no such thing as different worlds, Theo. Only status, and power. Social class per say. But you and I very much live in the same world outside of family, and other things. Kindred spirits, I would say... though is there really a title at all for this?"

Dinner was very nice. Theo was satisfied, his head was completely clear, and he was enjoying himself. The conversation was going along swimmingly, though still Roslyn and he didn't exactly see the world in the same way. Not that he was going to bring that up or anything.
"I see your point.", he answered. Theo fiddled with the napkin on his lap, not quite thinking about what Roslyn had just said. She had distracted him again when she propped her chin in her hand. The way the lighting cast over her face made her appear angelic, and suddenly Theo's thoughts scattered.
Its mind over matter. He scolded himself mentally, as his eyes quickly passed over the table in the hopes if finding a glass of much needed wine.

Though Theo said he understood, Roslyn was perceptive enough to see he wasn't completely in tune with their conversation. Lack of interest? Perhaps. Or maybe his thoughts were just elsewhere, and curiosity peeked. Roslyn debated whether to leave him be, to not risk ruining the fragile peace they'd come to. He was entitled to his privacy, already having given much more of an effort than she could have ever expected. Still. As he fiddled with his napkin, while his eyes passed rapidly over the table, Roslyn decided to throw caution to the wind.
"Penny for your thoughts, Mr. Nott?" A teasing edge made it's way to her eyes, as Roslyn licked her lips briefly, the tastes of the herbs cooked into the dinner still lingering deliciously. "If you're wondering about the herbs I used in this lovely meal, you shan't get a single one from me. As your new friend, I feel I must protect you from the horde of witches who would without a doubt be very hard to get rid of, if they should ever think you could cook such a divine meal."

"Hmmm?", Theo murmured distractedly as he turned his attention back to Roslyn. He had heard her question, but it took a moment for the words to actually form some sort of sense. "Oh. Right..." Slightly embarrassed for his lack of focus, Theo took one more glance at the table before shaking his head slightly. "Seems I'd forgotten we weren't having wine." More like, it seemed you'd forgotten we weren't having her… He ignored the inner voice, and chuckled.
"Horde of witches you say?" Theodore laughed, the idea of witches by the dozen chasing him, while most appealing, wasn't quite anything that interested him. Even in jest. "Good to know I'm in safe hands. Though, if they're raining down as heavy as you say, I hope you have a sturdy umbrella." Theo's jet eyes twinkled as he continued to laugh.

At Theo's comment, Roslyn tilted her head, tempted to say just how sturdy she could be. However she caught herself, reminded that they were only friends. True enough friends sometimes exchanged playful flirty comments; but seeing how this was Theo. It was best to keep all comments strictly platonic. A few brief seconds passed with Roslyn staring at him, caught off guard at the sound of his laughter. In all the awkward meetings between the two she's never heard him laugh so freely, and to be honest it was...nice. Different. But nice.
Giving herself a shake, Roslyn smiled standing as she carefully scooted her chair back. "Well not to worry. I can get that wine, for you. We must always please our guests, after all." Quickly hurrying off to retrieve said wine, Roslyn thought it was a welcome break. She tended to get quite distracted around Theo..

His laughter was gone as suddenly as it came. Theodore held up his hand, and head began to shake. "I didn't mean-", he started as Roslyn scurried off. Wine wasn't necessary, Theodore was simply accustomed to having a glass or two with dinner. He only mentioned it because if he were to tell Roslyn was was really on his mind, he was sure to be chucked out on his hind quarters.
"Right...", Theo muttered to himself as he looked back to the table. The dishes were more or less empty, and to have them sit there, all in the way and dirty as they were, was really bothersome. At home, as soon as he finished his meal the family's House-Elf rushed up to the table to clear everything Theodore no longer needed. Here, there was no such idea. He would have to make do with a bit of wand work.

Roslyn took a moment debating between beverages, but mostly just to give herself some time. She felt almost as if she were walking on eggshells even more with this new found friendship. It was far easier when two people didn't get along, only for the fact that there was no need to impress anyone. You didn't worry about something going wrong when you already didn't like one another. But this new Theo... Though Roslyn couldn't help wondering how long it would last, she had to admit he was much better company when he was being pleasant. She wanted things to stay as such, which is why anything further than friendship was out of the question.
Eying the bottle of red wine, she'd chosen instead; her thoughts began to wonder. Some red wines were sweet, though this is particular was dry, but full bodied and delightful. In a way it reminded her of Theo, and Roslyn wondered what type of wines he actually preferred; before deciding she was being silly. Grabbing both simply for the sake of having a variety to chose from, Roslyn made her way from the cellar soundlessly.
Upon entering her kitchen again, Roslyn saw that Theo was looking at the empty dishes. "Oh don't worry about those, Theo. I could... Well just don't feel like you have to do anything." She thought it might become bothersome if she insisted on doing everything, so Roslyn simply left open the option to leave it to her or help. Grabbing a few dishes, Roslyn carried them to the sink turning the hot water on. "Wasn't sure which wines you prefer... Hope they're alright." Wiping at her neck with a cloth as the steam made her skin flushed, she hummed quietly.

The dishes weren't going to clean themselves, sadly, and Theodore pushed himself away from the table with a frown, rising smoothly to his feet. While not his forte, he intended to get the dishes cleaned and out of the way, but before his wand could leave his pocket, Roslyn had returned from the cellar with two bottles of wine. Theo's brow rose slightly with surprise, and he watched as the spirits were set aside in favor of the plates and things they had dirtied. "Either is fine, thank you." Theodore answered as he abandoned the idea of him tidying up. "Mind if I get us started?", he added with a gesture to the wine while already summoning a pair of stemmed glasses. Roslyn was busy, and he really wasn't the type to wait for permission. Before another breath could pass, Theo had the cork from the bottle of red popped, and the glasses filled.
"There we are." The glassed were picked up, one in each hand, and Theodore approached Roslyn. She was pink in the cheeks, the steam rising lazily to meet her, and once again, something deep within stirred. Theo hastily set the glasses down to free his hands so as to offer his help. "You believe I would do anything I didn't wish to do?" He purred as he reached for the towel so fortunate enough to wipe away the dew upon Roslyn's neck. In a flash, Theodore slipped into old habits.

Before she could answer Theo's question, the soft pop of the wine being opened could be heard above the sound of water running from the faucet. A small smile pulled at the edges of Roslyn's mouth. She knew it was more of a rhetorical question that didn't require an answer on her behalf. Still. "I don't mind at all. Both are quite aged, the flavors are explosive. I actually traveled to France with my grandparents once for the-" She paused glancing over her shoulder, sponge in hand seeing Theo pour the red. She had a feeling he'd like that one. "Red. You can't find that one here. I typically use it for special occasions..."
"But given how special the company is." Roslyn meant that in the most innocent way, though she supposed once it was said, it could be taken differently. Oh well. Turning back towards the dishes, she didn't have time to set the towel aside to presume her task, as soft foot steps padding across her wooden floor was heard; The towel taken. Roslyn felt her head grow light, her chest heaving as her heart sped up.
At Theo's question, Roslyn steeled herself; quieting her nerves. Turning to capture Theo's gaze, she shrugged slightly. "Perhaps not. But I must ask what it is you do want... Or is it more so who?" She wasn't blind nor naive. She recognized the burning stares Theo gave most witches. Includeing his tone. However she could deny herself the forbidden fruit. She was determined to keep things smooth sailing. If she could help it she would never be just another witch added to Theo's list.

How easy it was to slip back into old ways. Mind, Theodore had decided not to try and woo Roslyn only a few hours ago so, his change in behavior was something he had to actually think about. Awkward. "Who? I'm not sure I understand..." Theodore hadn't realized he was acting any different when Roslyn spun around to meet him head on to call him on his actions. His head tilted, and a sly grin played in his lips just as awareness dawned. "Ahh... Yes. My sincerest apologies, sweet Rose."
Of course Theo wanted Roslyn, she was clever, honest, and simply divine to look at. It was just that it was so hard for him not to reach out and take whomever he fancied for the time being. All of his life, Theodore had anything his heart desired, denial was going to be more challenging that previously thought. Or, perhaps...if he changed his strategy he wouldn't have to play a game with such difficult rules.
One tiny step forward and Theodore was less than an inch from Roslyn. He dipped his head, leveling his eyes with hers. "You're just so hard to resist. I've been battling with myself all evening." Maybe a bit of the truth would help in attaining his goal.

Though Roslyn was stern in her decision not to play into Theo's game, she wasn't insensitive to his situation. How long had Theo been so accustomed to acting as he pleased with no consequences? She couldn't take away from the fact that he was trying, and so she would bend a little. Not much, but enough to show she did appreciate him. "Some habits are harder to break than others," She replied simply to his apology, silently accepting it. Her brow perked up at his sly grin, not allowing herself to be moved. "I understand that instinct can be very tempting. But isn't that the point, Theo?"
Even as he stepped forward, so close Roslyn could feel the warmth radiating off of Theo, his cologne drifting into her nose; Roslyn didn't move an inch, keeping his gaze. Smiling briefly at his revelation. "I would be flattered at your honesty, if it weren't so expected, and something I've heard from many men who also give into such an instinct like yours." Roslyn took a step back. "I don't need to tell you that you're an attractive man, Theo. I'm sure we've both had our share of compliments in our lifetime, that fail to impress as often as we've heard them. You know you're brilliant and can charm anyone you want...which you use to your advantage. So Theo." The smile slipped from her face to show she was serious.
"What I'm saying is in spite of the possibility that we would both enjoy a night of passion...what I wouldn't enjoy is becoming another witch of the moment, for you to move on as soon as you got what you wanted. I told you i wanted to be your friend and I meant it. Not your entertainment."
