This was impossible. Having to make a conscious effort to control one's natural instincts was proving too much. Theodore, while typically strong-willed, and determined to see through any challenge, felt tired already after only a few hours. Roslyn had to continuously had to check his actions, which left him with idea he was being scolded like a toddler, that certainly was a giant pill to swallow, and not to mention drew forth resentment. "No" had to be one of the foulest words ever uttered in any language.
He took a few steps back as Roslyn prattled on about how she wanted to be friends, Theo stopped listening nearly straightaway. Once he heard the tone of her voice, he had a good grasp of the context of her little speech he disengaged. An exit was what he was after now. The closer, the better. "I see...", he replied coolly, shifting his gaze between Roslyn and the soapy water in the sink, watching the bubbles float lazily over the surface.
To Theo it was clear now. A friendship wasn't going to be possible. All evening he had tried to view Roslyn in a different light, only to fail horribly. "I think it would be best...if I leave.", he said, folding the towel in his hands neatly. He couldn't do this. Theo had no strength to dangle a tempting carrot in front of his nose and ignore it. Sooner or later he would snap.

All it took was mere seconds, before things took a completely different tone. Roslyn could practically hear the ice cracking in Theo's voice. The life in it had drained, a certain bitterness tainting what once was coated in honey. He could try to hide it behind cool detachment. But Roslyn could always see through Theo... she'd never took him much for a coward though. You could say he wasn't the only one feeling bitter at that point. It was so typical. As soon as she denied him what he wanted the fragile peace they had built came crashing down. What had changed? Obviously nothing.
If she had thought it would change a thing, Roslyn would have explained she hadn't meant make it sound as if Theo wasn't good enough, or whatever she had done to his ego to make him take a step back. But Roslyn had concluded none of it would change anything... And you know what? She had no reason to apologize for standing for something. For being honest. She wasn't the one running away this time.
While all these thoughts ran through her head, Roslyn stared hard at Theo, feeling empty and hallow. The bitterness of being so...disappointed hardening her eyes. How sad. He wasn't even worth getting angry over. If anything Roslyn had herself to blame for believing that this would last. Her face remained stoic, a slight look of disgust emerging. She couldn't hide how she felt, it was almost like a betrayal. "Perhaps you should." Her voice was nearly unrecognizable. A low hiss, cold as ice. "Cowards don't belong in this house, Theodore."
With that said, Roslyn abandoned the dishes, unable to even be in the same room as this...boy. As far as she was concerned he could see his self out. Turning, she kept her back to him. "Your earlier statement was invalid... You said everyone always leaves." Roslyn held her head high, turning to look at him. "Liar. You're the one who's running this time." She exited the room.
