For a few moments, Vane had actually lost himself in his thoughts and words of Quidditch. He wasn't feeling the chill in the air surrounding them by the lake, but the icy wind whipping through his hair, and snapping the edges of his Slytherin Quidditch team robes instead. Things were viewed as if he was actually on his broom, a near blur, when Jennessa's soft, sweet voice reached him so high to pull him right back to the ground. Reality.
He blinked, remebering at once he was by the lake with his new found Hufflepuff friend when his eyes once again focused on Jennessa's fair features. The suddeness of being pulled from one place to another so quickly in Vane's mind confused him for a breath, and his heart fluttered while peering down to the witch. As if he wasn't feeling like he'd just been Confunded already, now his body had to feel emotions he wasn't even considering on having, thus befuddling the wizard more so.
His head tilted slighty, still swimming and he asked, the puzzlement in his expression and voice clear as a bell. "You've never watched a game...?" How could this be? His bright blue eyes probed her, as disbelief began to wash away his confusion. Obviously they both attended the same school, and Quidditch was the most popular extracurricular activity the study body enjoyed to participate in, so... how, in the name of Salazar Slytherin, could she not have seen at least one match?

That same smile that consistantly seemed to light up Nessa's face remained there on her lips. She watched his eyes as they stared back at hers, even if they were really looking right through her. She felt that his whole attention was on her, even though he was really quite a ways above her in his mind. However... As the boy focused on these thoughts... The cold was starting to get to Nessa. darn! Why didn't she think to grab at least her cloak? She came out here dressed too lightly. Soon enough, however, she seemed to bring Vane back to earth. She would be slightly sorry about that, knowing that she had found what Vane was passionate about.
She grinned just a little as he blinked a couple times, looking a little confused. She just smiled at him, though she was shivering more often than she'd like, those lovely teeth chattering just a bit. When Vane's eyes met hers... Truly met hers... Her heart leapt and began hammering as if it were in her throat. She locked her hands gently behind her back, still holding that stone. But she couldn't keep that stance long, bringing her hands around to rub bare arms lightly against the chill. Blast it all! She didn't want her time with the wizard to be diminished at all! This might be the only chance she'll have! For goodness sake he may come to his senses and hex her next time he saw her... This was normal... Well no this was abnormal, usually that part happened way earlier than this... And yet somehow it bothered her deeply. Those thoughts would soon show on her face as she looked down, while she took the moment to rub her arms.
Yet at his words, that gentle gaze leapt back to his face, smile bounding back into place as she heard his questioning statement. She shook her head a little and blushed a bit. "I... I've always been to scared to climb up into the stands to be honest..." She bit her lip a little. It sounded silly even as she said it, but her fear of heights crippled her. "I-I make excuses every game... My friends always want me to come watch, b-but I tell them I have homework, or I want to practice something, or some silly lame excuse like that..." She shrugged it off and shivered a bit more, finding the breeze that picked up even colder as it wafted over the lake. She smiled shyly at him. "Sorry..." She furrowed her brows trying to think of somewhere inside they could talk but was coming up empty. "Danget... I wish I had the forethought to bring my cloak... I think we may have to go in soon..." Those words were filled with a deep sorrow. Apperantly it was the last thing she wanted to do. "Well I may anyway, you look as if you could stay out as long as you wished." She smiled sheepishly as she started rambling a little bit and shut it off before it got annoying.

Vane's confusion turned into understanding once Nessa began her explanation. His younger sister, Valerie, was afraid of heights, he completely undestood where the Huffie was coming from. But, it might not have been such a smart idea for the girl to let the snake in on her biggest weakness, for that would be where he would strike if he ever felt the urge to badger the badger.
He caught sight of her trembling, but didn't want to draw attention to the fact. Like she wouldn't have noticed her own shivering. Ha. Right. Vane didn't want to leave just yet though, he figured that keeping his mouth shut, and just listening wouldn't draw focus to the cold seeping into her bones. Unfortunately, Jennessa did notice the temperature, and he groaned inwardly at her comment.
"It is cold. How 'bout you wear my cloak til we reach the castle? Don't want you to freeze before we get back." Vane's reply came out softly with the slightest hint of disappointment on the edges. "It's probably best anyway. Someone's bound to come round here. Odds are it'll be Flitch." He didn't wait for Jennessa to speak before he was shrugging out from under his heavy cloak, and slipping it quickly over her own shoulders. He sucked in a quiet breath, the temperature feeling much colder since leaving the warmth, and flashed a grin in hopes of hiding his discomfort.

It didn't even occur to the little badger that she shouldn't be revealing these things to the snake. Granted, he was the first snake ever to hear the girl's darkest fears, but then again he was the first snake to take any time to get to know her at all. Anyway, how the heck could Vane use this fear against her? It wasn't like he could make her go up high if she didn't want to. Right? Oh silly naieve girl... But she merely smiled shakily at him in response as she saw the understanding in his eyes.
The tiny girl continued to quiver as the cold continued to remind her of it's presence. Curse it! She longed to stay out here all night with Vane... Only to talk and enjoy the presence of the other, but to do it as long as he would allow. Surely he would come to his senses tomorrow and all would be right with the world again. Snake would hate badger, and badger would be stung by snake. It was how things went. How the world worked...
She glanced up at the castle, thinking wistfully of her warm common room, and even warmer bed. But at the same time, she couldn't imagine leaving Vane... This night was simply turning out too perfectly. She sighed gently, though his words made her perk up a bit. She furrowed her brows a little. "But I wouldn't want you to fr-" Her words would cut off as she felt the warmth of his cloak engulf her tiny frame. She would cling lightly to the fabric, pulling it around her tighter. She smiled warmly as he flashed that grin. He was doing quite a good job at hiding his discomfort indeed... "Alright... Thank you... But you have to take it back before we get into the castle. Someone might see..." A smile was flashed, her eyes darting to his. It was partially a joke, partially a want to see his reaction and how he felt about said words.
Another set of testing words would soon come again. "But we could walk a bit slower at this point... I'm not likely to freeze and you don't look like you're doing too badly either." She smiled warmly wondering if he'd like the idea of walking slower. Slow steps would be taken toward the castle. "I suppose the Quidditch stands are safe enough..." She mused aloud for a moment. "I mean students are up there all the time... Maybe they are safe..." It was almost as if the girl were trying to convince herself with these words... Perhaps she was.
