Garrett flinched when Snape called him. Damn. He had thought he was whispering quietly enough that Snape wouldn't notice. "Oh, bugger..." Garrett muttered.
He stood up, only slightly terrified, and walked to the front, keeping his eyes on the floor. "Yes, Professor?" he said, quite pleased by the fact that his voice didn't tremble.

::His cruel eyes followed the pair as they approached the front.::
Give them some room class.
::He pointed at a place on the floor a few feet away from him between his desk and those of the students.::
Liddel.
::He pointed at another position parallel to the first a few feet on the opposite side.::
Trevena.

*It had been surprising and a little shock as well to see Snape teaching today. The girl had always been more than intimidated in his presence so there would certainly be no need to tell her twice; Tina jumped up to obey. Being further away seemed to be the best thing to do, particularly in class. *
*Obviously Wingardium Leviosa time was over. Wearing a worried expression on her face, Tina didn't want their duel to start, but there was nothing she could do to prevent it. Nobody could.*

Unlike Garrett, Jennessa was visibly quaking. She didn't like this... Not one bit. She wasn't sure what Snape was planning on having them do, but she was terrified to see. She moved swiftly to where he told them to go, not wanting to anger him by moving slowly. A glance was quickly tossed his way as he spoke her last name once again and indicated where she should stand.
Quick, yet uncertain steps took her to that spot and she stood parallel to her dear friend. Snape wasn't going to have them duel in front of the class were they? Granted if he was, Nessa would be fine. She enjoyed dueling and was good at it. And she knew Garrett enough to know that neither would hurt the other in this. And yet somehow she felt that Headmaster Snape had something unpleasant in store for them.

::As the pair made their way to the spots he had designated he watched them with an irritated frown, hiding the fact that he may actually enjoy what was about to happen.::
Right you two. Time to put what you have learned so well into practice.
A duel. Non-verbal spells only. You may use any of the following spells.
::He moved to the blackboard and waved his wand to have the chalk write up the accepted magic.::
The Disarming Charm, The Shield Charm, The Confundus Charm, Aguamenti, Everte Statum, The Impediment Jinx The Leg-Lock Curse The Tickling Charm
I do not want any damage done to my classroom.
On my mark, you may begin.

*She watched as Nessa and Garrett stepped up to the front. She couldn’t help but feel a little amused. Mainly she was happy that it wasn’t herself that was being tested as she knew there would have been an overwhelming chance of her ending belly-up. While the class contained a happy mesh of temperament that maintained a semblance of order and civility, the prospect of dueling with one of the slytherins was not something she wished for.*
*She padded out of the way to make room for the duelists with a look of expectance on her face.*

Jennessa had been afraid of what Snape had planned for them... Of all the things he could have happening... This was likely the best. She wondered if Snape knew that he had just put two of the best of friends against eachother. A duel with Garrett! Sure the fact that it was in front of the entire class made her nervous... But it was going to be great! Nessa remembered dueling many times with this young man as they grew up. They practiced their spells on eachother often. It always ended up in hilarity, as neither would ever try and hurt the other.
As Snape put up the acceptable spells, she glanced over, reading them over quickly. Awesome! This kept getting better. They weren't permitted or expected to use anything that would hurt the other. But the fact that they had to do it non-verbally made her nervous. She was improving with Wingardium Leviosa... But she hadn't tried the others non verbally... Nessa looked at Garrett's concerned face and she whipped out her wand, moving into a ready position. "Come on Garrett... Just like old times." She practically purred, a grin spreading as she readied herself, now fully focused on the boy before her.

*Wyman had already completed the task and was watching the others. Wngardium Leviosa was an easy one. He was rather surprised when Prof. Snape asked everyone to do the Hover Charm. He had expected for a little more.*
*As he watched everyone trying out to levitate their textbooks he heard Prof. Snape commanding two of his fellow classmates to duel.*
*He was always excited during a duel. So he watched as Prof. Snape wrote the accepted charms. Then he watched Nessa and Garret preparing themselves.*

Garrett looked horrified. Attack his best mate? No way! He risked glaring at Professor Snape from under his long hair. He would have placed money on this professor never having any mates. He then glanced at the blackboard, reading the spells he was allowed use. He wasn't the best at duelling, and in the past Nessa would always wipe the floor with him in duels, but he was good at charms. He could definitely try the disarming spell, and he was confident that his tickling charm was strong enough to risk as a non-verbal. Besides, 'Nessa had a brilliant laugh. It could be fun!
He looked at the Hufflepuff and couldn't resist smiling a little. "You're on, pig tails," he muttered, and bowed to her, as was traditional before a formal duel, then took up his spot, ready to start the duel whenever Snape said so.

His grip on his wand tightened, and he threw his friend an apologetic look when Snape told them to begin.
Garrett's eye twitched, and he gave a quick jab with his wand in Nessa's direction, thinking as hard as he could, "Rictumsempra!"

Nessa also performed the customary bow just before Snape told them to begin. She looked up just in time to catch her friend's apologetic look, and it was returned with a warm smile. She would let him know it was alright. Both of them knew that neither meant them any harm in the least. But Jennessa watched Garrett's moves very closely. These two knew eachother all too well, and Garrett had these little quirks that alerted Nessa as to what he was about to do. When dueling, Jennessa was far more observant than she normally was, and at the jab of his wand, Jennessa was already moving her wand in the appropriate movements for a shield charm. Protego to be exact. She had practiced this one over and over, finding it quite useful for all but the most unfriendly spells. She hadn't tried it nonverbally, but she was thrilled to find that her knowledge of the spell and practice with it verablly, and the understanding she did have of non-verbal spells helped her to create at least a decent shield charm to deflect what her dear friend was sending after her.
"You're going to have to be quicker than that Garrett!" She playfully spoke, but then gasped and turned a bright shade of pink, glancing to the Professor. Nonverbal. Right. She hushed and focused on trying to send an Aguamenti spell at her friend, yet only managed to send the smallest spray of water from her wand. A spray which wouldn't even likely hit him. She looked at her wand, puzzled for the moment, and rather distracted. She wasn't certain why that didn't work.

Garrett sniggered at the pathetic spray of water that came from Nessa's wand, and redoubled his efforts. He made a showy gesture with his right hand to distract her, while his left hand, holding his wand, made a quick swish and jab and he thought, "Locomotor Mortis!". He hoped he could just hit her with one even half-decent hex so Snape would leave them alone, and pick on somebody else.

*Michael was pleased to see that Snape had actually set the students to some action. It could be fun to watch these two blast each other for a while, though he was himself keen to get a few shots fired off at some high and mighty student who needed putting in their place.*
