Having finished up in Honeydukes for the day, Luna made her way to the Three Broomsticks, fancying a butterbeer before she went home. As nice as Mister Flume was, she was itching to spread her wings. Her ultimate dream was to travel the world, and document new species of magical creatures, and she had a theory that she could find new magical fauna in Madagascar. She had contacted Newt Scamander with her ideas, and while he found them intriguing, the matter of funding her dream was mentioned.
She did love the sweetshop, but it didn't pay terribly much, and it seemed unlikely she would save up enough for her expedition. So she sighed, and sipped her butterbeer at a free table, wondering what to do ... and wondering where Ron and Hermione were.

Roger walked into the familiar pub, needing a hard drink after the day's quidditch practice. He played terrible, there was no way he was going to get the new position on the pro team, and he thought his position on the reserve team was in danger too. He didn't know if it was the lack of sleep he got last night or because his thoughts were clouded of Fleur all day that he could not concentrate. Most likely it was both.
He also didn't want to go back to his cottage and face her. The events that happened last night were just to much for him to handle. While he could never hold a grudge against her, he didn't want to be around her at all, something he thought that would never happen in a thousand years.
He went to the bar, ordered a firewhiskey and sat down at a nearby table alone.

Luna looked up, hearing a familiar voice. She smiled, recognising Roger at once. He had been a few years ahead of her in Ravenclaw house, but she had always respected him. This evening, however, he didn't look his usual self. He looked rather drawn and worried, and Luna being Luna, she just couldn't ignore someone who looked as though they needed a friend. Even if her offer of company was rebuffed, her conscience would be clear just knowing she had tried.
She picked up her butterbeer and approached his table.
"Hello Roger," she said mildly. "Mind if I join you? You look like you could do with some company. Even the wrackspurts are avoiding you right now, so I think you must be feeling a bit stressed about something. Anything I can do to help?"

Roger instantly recognized the woman's voice; it was fellow Ravenclaw Luna Lovegood. While he always thought Luna was a little unusual he was not going to turn down her company. She noticed he was uncomfortable and perhaps the company of someone wiser than him was just what he needed.
"You always were very observant Luna" he said as he looked up at her and motioned for her to sit, "although I don't know if you can help me." Suddenly his face lit up, "Say, have you heard or seen any of the Weasleys' recently?"

She took a seat at his request, glad he had accepted the offer of her company.
"Well, I can do my best to help you. That's all any of us can ever do, isn't it? Our best?" she said, trying to gently encourage him to talk to her.
She sighed, suddenly reminded by his mention of the Weasleys that Ron and Hermione were still missing, and had been for months. "I've seen Fred and George, and Mrs. Weasley, but I haven't seen any of the others of late."

"You have seen them?" Roger asked, his interest piqued. "That is some good news. Do you remember Fleur Delacour? She is engaged to the oldest brother, Bill. When everything happened she came to me for help and has been staying at my cottage. It is just being around her again is just..." Roger trailed off for a moment before he sighed. "Well... difficult" he was finally able to finish as he slumped down and took a swig of his firewhiskey.

Luna nodded, agreeing that it was good news. It was always nice to hear from the Weasleys, but she couldn't help worry about Ron and Hermione. The Daily Prophet had gone so far as to report them missing, but she knew that was a front for snatchers to gain more eyes and ears in the search.
"Of course I remember Fleur," Luna said mildly. "Thanks to her presence at the Yule Ball, I was able to observe that nargles avoid Veelas, or at least people of Veela descent. Fascinating to see that nargles are immune to their charms, really."
She sipped her butterbeer, and observed Roger's expression closely as he spoke about Fleur.
"Well, it's not easy for anyone to be around Veela. It's hard not to be charmed by them," Luna admitted. While most of the girls at Hogwarts had been bemused by the way the boys acted around Fleur, Luna had observed it all with a sort of scientific detachment, fascinated by the interactions between them.

"No it's not hard to be charmed by them, especially if you are a male" Roger said before a small smile grew on his face as he thought about the Yule Ball. "Fleur still teases me occasionally about my actions at the Yule Ball" he said as he laughed lightly.
"No it's not hard to be charmed by them" he repeated. "Especially one as beautiful, intelligent, talented, and beautiful as Fleur. She is also very intelligent and talented", he repeated, completely clueless that he was doing it. "She taught me how to summon a Patrounus yesterday. It took an entire day to finally be able to do it but she would not let me quit."

Luna nodded, agreeing with him. Based on her observations, wizards tended to do some pretty daft things to impress Veela. She still remembered the time Ron yelled at Fleur, asking her out in possibly the most charmless fashion possible.
"I've known women who are just as affected as men by Veela, but they're rare," Luna admitted.
She raised an eyebrow when he started listing Fleur's positive attributes. Oh, Merlin ... This sounded like he had developed something of a crush.
"Harry taught me how to cast a Patronus," she said. "It's always nice when friends teach us new things."

"Yes it is" Roger agreed, nodding his head slightly. "I was never able to cast it before, Umbridge was the teacher in my last year at Hogwarts and she only told us how to cast it, she never really taught us" he said. "Fleur actually taught me, she showed me how and actually cared about me being able to cast it. I wanted to give up several times but she still encouraged me to practice and would not let me give up" Roger continued.
"Fleur still says I have a lot to learn and has more to teach me, although she didn't say what she has planned" he said. "Yes, it is always nice when friends teach us new things" he spoke before taking another swig of his firewhiskey.

Umbridge. Ah yes, Luna remembered her. Hard to forget that toad faced witch in her sickening pink getups. "She wasn't a very nice person," Luna remarked. "Nor was she a very effective teacher. I think I learned more from Harry than from her that year."
She peered closely at Roger, wondering what was going on with him and Fleur. "So you've been seeing a lot of Fleur lately?" she asked lightly. "How has she been?"

"Well she has been staying with me at my house the last few days" Roger said, somewhat uncomfortably. "She hasn't been herself lately either. I know this entire mess has been hard on her. She puts on a brave face but I can tell it has effected her greatly," he said as he took another swig of his drink, somewhat nervously as he could tell Luna was curious about his relationship with Fleur.

"Yes, it's been very hard on everyone. Nobody's been the same since Ginny died," Luna agreed. "But my mum always used to say that the ones we love never really leave us."
There was a definite edge to his voice, and a sort of awkwardness that Luna recognised as something she had seen in Harry quite often, usually when he was trying to hide something. People often dismissed her as dotty, or away with the fairies as her aunt used to put it, but Luna noticed things that others didn't.
"And how has it affected her?" Luna asked. "I only ask because it must be difficult for you, sharing your home."

Roger took another swig of his drink, debating in his head if he should tell Luna what happened last night or not. He knew Luna felt he was trying to hide something, and maybe talking about what happened would give him some relief.
"Well," Roger stammered as if he was not sure he should continue. "Something happened last night in my room where she has been staying. Now I certainly didn't encourage Fleur to do so, at least not intentionally, but I was just trying to comfort her and she..." Roger's voice trailed off for a moment as he gave one last thought if he should continue before he decided to do so, "She tried to kiss me" he whispered.

"Oh."
Luna bit her lower lip, wondering what on earth had prompted Fleur to do such a thing. She had never been a close friend of Fleur's, and even quietly observant Luna couldn't fathom a reason for it.
"Well, I suppose she's under a great deal of stress at the moment," Luna suggested. "And stress can do funny things to your head. It can make you an absolute beacon for wrackspurts. Harry's head was always full of them..." She trailed off, not wanting to discuss Harry. "I wouldn't think too much about it if I were you. Just tell Fleur that it was just a kiss, nothing serious, and that you're always there to listen to her problems."
