For once the Death Eater arrived later than usual, conveniently having to wait for a much shorter time frame at the security control. Only a few other wizards were waiting to gain access to the part behind the entrance to begin with their work for the day. Would it be for Alistair though, at least half of the employees would have to be removed from their duties to allow the more capable and worthier staff to take their place, portraying the true might of this Ministry, not the pathetic excuse it had been for all those years. But it was only a matter of time until the world would change in favour to those who were worthy and in favour to the most powerful wizard Yaxley had sworn his loyalty to.
He didn’t want to waste any more time for now and determinately strode to one of the lifts that would take him to his actual work space, the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, where he clearly worked with lesser than he, but his true tasks were important enough to remain in this position.
With the black suitcase in his right hand, he adjusted his amber tie with the other. Waiting for the doors to open…

It had been a trying day for Isabella. Being in the Department of International Magical Cooperation meant sometimes dealing with parties who were less than pleasant. Downright nasty was actually a more suitable way of putting it at times. However days like today were simply annoying. Sometimes a casual discussion of whether cauldrons should be thick or thinner for the next coming school year could turn to more sensitive topics such as where loyalties lay. They didn't even have to be connected, all that mattered was that the other party wanted to be right. It was Isabella's job to remain neutral, level headed, and she did her job well. She never lost her cool, even when she wanted to tell both parties to act like adults and leave the petty none sense alone. She had signed up for this, hadn't she? Even so she needed some air.
With long strides she strode to the lift that would take her to her destination: Which was to drop off some files before she would take a short break. Shoulders squared, and back held straight, Isabella met the gaze of each person she passed, giving a brief nod. She would never show the strain she felt. She would take it all gracefully. It would appear she was not alone, though solitude is all Isabella wanted at the time. However, she nodded respectfully to Mr. Yaxley.
"Mr. Yaxley, what a pleasure, sir."

Had the young woman not greeted him first, he probably wouldn’t have paid much attention to her as his mind was already occupied with some of the matters that needed to be done today. Yet it was his job to do his duties with observant eyes and ears. One could never be certain where secrets could be revealed from and even idle chatter or rumours could offer information that would prove most fruitful in either present or future.
Turning only halfway towards her to be ready to enter the lift as soon as it arrived, he returned the polite greeting with a nod of his head.
“Miss Donae.”
He only recalled her last name at this very moment, but this was all that mattered – and that her blood was pure. They certainly weren’t on a first name basis and he didn’t plan to change that. There were only few members of the Ministry he would consider closer to him than others. But no matter how close a connection seemed, there wasn’t anybody deserving to be invited to know of all aspects of himself or the life of his family. Disclosing too much to the wrong source was something only the lower parts of society were dealing with. And that alone because of their own stupidity.

Isabella was not a witch who was easily intimidated. You couldn’t be get anywhere being a coward, part of success was taking risks. Taking the leap into things that would benefit her future. However, she did get certain vibes about people which was part of how she got on in the world. If she felt someone was bad company she tended to keep her distance, it was how she kept out of trouble. And now was definitely no different. It wasn’t as if she had any reason to distrust Mr. Yaxley, he hadn’t done anything to trigger any red flags. There was just something about him the young woman didn’t trust. Call it intuition, or paranoia. However, Isabella was raised with manners. She could be polite to anyone, after all she was an adult not a child.
Smoothing out the wrinkles in her robes, Isabella set her gaze straight ahead as she too waited for the lift. When it had arrived at last she stepped on, turning in a smooth circle as she faced the exit. Always ready for the next step.

He entered after her, getting a hold of one of the holding handles that were aiding passengers and their belongings to remain at their position. The last unpleasantry he needed during his lift rides were whatever lowlifes inside stumbling against him, so he tried to have as much distance as possible within a closed space such as this one. He could think of barely anything more disgusting than being forced to share territory with a bunch of Mudbloods and traitors of wizard kind. How else could one call it when sorcery was not privy to those born into Pureblood families and others just accepted or even promoted it?
It was an insult that Muggle influence had been able to reach that far into their world. Yaxley had never tolerated them, nor did he plan to change his mind. Of course he had kept quiet about this in public; had dealt with one or the other sordid affair in secrecy to remain a trustworthy enough member of the Wizengamot and the Magical Law Enforcement section. While he was indeed interested in providing a safer atmosphere for his kind, he often favoured his own agenda over the wellbeing of others. At some point priorities just had to be made and any truth could be bent to one’s sufficiency.
After a last glance towards the part of the Atrium that was visible through the golden grille, he chose his destination.

Politely allowing Mr. Yaxley to reach forward first for his destination, Isabella wait for a few moments, her hands clasped in front of her. When the older man had moved aside she reached forward to choose her destination as well, before following suit and grabbing the handle above. She could remember her very first time coming to the ministry, when she had forgotten to grab a handle and had nearly fallen flat on her face in front of everyone. Isabella didn’t do well with embarrassing herself, and she was never one for making the same mistake twice. Though now it was a memory she could look at with slight humor, a small smile pulling at the corners of her lips.
Her thoughts quickly drifted back to her work, and the pile of things she still had left to do. Well technically speaking Isabella was ahead in her work, as she never allowed herself to fall behind, her mind always two steps ahead. However as she planned to stay ahead, there were still things left to be done. There was always something to do.
A sudden jerking caught the young witch off guard, the smile slipping from her face. She was used to the lift stopping quite suddenly, however as Isabella glanced to the dial that showed the floor level, her brow furrowed. She hadn’t yet reached her desired destination and from the looks of it Mr. Yaxley hadn’t either. “How odd..” She murmured under her breath.

Suspicious blue eyes thoroughly scanned the interior of the lift. Despite of the more than sufficient amount of security personnel inside the building, a security breach could never be fully excluded. He had observed and experienced plenty of situations portraying a false sense of safety that could be easily exploited by enemies. Thus he knew how carelessness in the wrong place never paid off and one could quickly regret a bad decision.
Yet… nothing aside from their sudden halt seemed out of the ordinary, allowing him to release some of the tension that had roamed his features, as well as facing the young woman once more. She seemed nervous. Alistair doubted her to be near a rise of panic, but people could change their disposition quicker than one was led to believe sometimes and any kind of hysterical outburst should better be avoided. Not that instilling fear and discomfort in others was necessarily a discomfort for him. In fact, there were several situations in which he actually took pleasure of someone’s defeat, but this wasn't a battle.
He gave her a questioning look. “Are you alright, Miss Donae?”

Isabella heard Mr. Yaxley’s question, however she took a few moments to answer as she watched the lift’s dial. She wait to see if it would move, or for any other cause for alarm. That was her motto, think before reacting when it came to everything.
“It would appear we’re having a problem with the lift…” She finally concluded when the dial hadn’t moved an inch. Frustration was barely bubbling under the surface, in replace of the nervousness from before. She didn’t have time for any maintenance problems. One of Isabella’s pet peeves was when something stood in the way of a goal, regardless of whether it was controllable or not. Her goal was to unwind for a minute, and then dive back into work as she usually did. Her patience was already short for Merlin’s sake.
In spite of how she felt, not a single bit would show on the young witches face, her expression cool and controlled.

As if it was a response to their small conversation, the female voice all Ministry workers and regular visitors were oh so used to, filled the lift cabin with the information that was both, an annoyance and a relief.
“The Ministry of Magic apologises for your inconvenience. Please remain calm while a member of our staff is attending maintenance. For your own safety you will be informed when your lift is ready to continue its way to your desired location. Have a nice day.”
Frowning slightly at the “Have a nice day.” remark, he shook his head. This interruption could have really happened to somebody else. While these kinds of things occurred once in a while, it had never happened to Yaxley and despite being rather grumpy about it, the company could have probably been worse.
“Well”, he said, half towards him, half towards Donae. “I hope there will be an appropriate explanation for this."

"Indeed," Isabella had to agree. "Hopefully this won't take long, I've hardly got any time for this." Shaking her head a quiet sigh escaped from the witches lips, before graceful acceptance of the current situation. Of course she didn't like the idea of being stuck on the lift, and being kept from her responsibilities, but there was nothing that either one of them could do about it. She was certain Mr. Yaxley was a busy man himself. So instead of complaining and making the situation worse, Isabella chose focus on patience rather than her frustration.
Looking towards the older wizard, Isabella tried for a small smile. She had not a clue what to say to begin small talk, it wasn't as if the two chatted daily or even ran in the same circle.

The woman appeared equally displeased by the rude interruption. Good. Ambitious staff was always preferred, at least by those who actually bothered to get anything done, unless they were eagerly meddling in affairs they were not predestined to partake in. She didn't constitute a threat to his cause and it was probably unlikely that this would change in future. As he obviously couldn’t do anything other than sending a complaint to maintenance if this took any longer, he chose the more civil option.
"Commendable." For a moment it might have appeared as if he was talking to himself, but the slight smile that he considered as an encouraging one was clearly addressed at her. "I am sure this attitude will be of use to you. Keep up the good work, my dear."

Isabella was a Ravenclaw, and rightfully so. Her mind never stopped moving, which meant her daily goal was always in mind. Everything she did was for the purpose of securing her future. The lift may have been experiencing technical difficulties but her mind was buzzing and had quickly switched from ideal chit chat with Mr. Yaxley to tomorrows meeting. Yes although this little annoyance was troublesome now, time still moved forward and there were things still needing to be done. "Hmm?" Turning towards the older wizard, her brow raised slightly, the young woman smiled once more as she realized he had complimented her.
"Oh yes. Work will never cease as long as there are goals to be reached. That's my motto in life. Always push forward regardless of any obstacle." Meaning their current situation, ambition was etched so deeply in Isabella her mind was always two steps ahead, which would explain the far away look on her face which could seem as if she were daydreaming. For those who knew her well they would know the young woman was always present, and focused.

"You certainly can’t do anything wrong with that view, even though it can be rare. Especially in days like these."
For a blink of an eye he wasn’t sure if the girl paid the proper attention to him, the one he deserved. Nevertheless he could differentiate between the affairs at work and his status among Purebloods and his fellow Dark Lord’s servants. In that situation they had probably both something else on their minds. Outrageous they hadn’t heard anything from maintenance yet. Had he been alone, the anger would have been much more obvious, though it wasn’t as if he couldn’t behave accordingly in front of a woman and colleague.
Shifting his position slightly towards her he added something instead. "It's important to know what to expect from the future you would prefer to live in. Working at the Ministry does have its advantages if you wait for the right moment. You have already made plans for the next step in your career, I take it? If you don't mind the question."
