Gryffindors play by the rules? I must have missed that. Potter certainly never seemed to.

*He smirks slightly at Romilda before looking to Jenna, his smile neither apologetic nor hostile. He stands by what he said but there's no malice behind it.*

Please, Slytherin won practically everything Gryffindor didn't. You had a reputation for talent and power and the ability to get things done in Wizarding society. It's our House that was consistently underestimated. Except as far as it concerned Diggory, people seemed to assume we were inept no matter how well we actually did.

*He turns back to Romilda, his smirk replaced by a gentler smile*

I try not to brag about it but there is a certain amount of responsibility associated with a lineage of that sort. It's part of why I went into public service. I really don't mind talking to him. It can't hurt to see what he can do. The Wizarding World is hardly a meritocracy. Everyone needs someone to open a door for them and I don't see anything unjust with doing a favour for a friend. And, please, call me Zacharias.

I never had an issue with Slytherins, honestly. Somewhat wished I was with them, but shh... no one is to know

So why do you think the Sorting Hat put you in Gryffindor?

I dunno. My family was in it and I guess I wanted to be like them. I didn't really pay attention to the details until after I was sorted.

Well, I don't necessarily think the traits of one's house must coincide with that of the student's...like you said, Mr. Smith, Cedric Diggory..

I sometimes wondered if I had any more reason to be in Hufflepuff than the family connection, if i might not be better of in Slytherin. The more I think about it, though, the more I think it made the right decision. I'm ambitious, sure, I won't deny it, but, when push comes to shove, loyalty is more important to me.

*Another small shrug as he takes a long sip of his drink*

I sometimes wonder about Sorting itself. I mean, almost no one has all the traits of one half and none of the traits of the others. People are more complex than that, Romilda.

Cedric was ambitious as any Slytherin, brave as any Gryffindor and smart as any Ravenclaw. He was just more loyal than even all of that. We were all proud of him, maybe a bit too much. I have to confess that I wore one of those silly badges Malfoy made the year of the Tournament. I wanted Hufflepuff to win something for a change.

my poor sister though is still there. She's a third year and about as Gryffindor as they get.

I'll definitely make a point of stopping by when I get a chance. My Mum died a few years back so...I find them comforting sometimes.
