*He pondered for a moment, wondering what the best course of action to take would be. Placing her in any sort of confinement would be almost like sentencing two individuals. The sane girl seemed harmless in comparison to the Sickness, yet he started to wonder about her past. She may be a danger even in health.*
Perhaps... we would have a better picture if we were to speak to some character witnesses.

Giulietta nodded. "As you wish, Minister. Lord Fuilteach would like to speak for my patient, and I believe Mister Vladislav is willing to speak for her, too," she said.
She glanced around the court. "However, it seems that Mister Vladislav is not here. Could you send for him, please? While we wait, Lord Fuilteach would be happy to speak to the court."

*He felt somewhat relieved that he had not yet been mentioned and remained silent at the back of the courtroom. Most likely his time would come, but he was in no hurry for it.*

Ophelia looked directly at Snape, unaware that they were both thinking nearly the same thought - relief that he had not been mentioned yet. She had asked Giulietta not to mention him during the trial, if it was at all possible. I feel nothing for him any more, she had told her doctor, but I would prefer not to get him involved. What he has to say could condemn me! He knew I was training to be a Death Eater, and even I don't know if I decided that before or after my mind started to fall apart.
She looked away, and murmured her favourite songs under her breath, trying to calm herself down, and hoped desperately for the end of the trial.

Sanguini stood, and glanced from the doctor, to his daughter, to the Minister.
"Is it permitted for me to speak for Ophelia, Minister?" he asked.

*He nods.*
Proceed.

Giulietta bowed her head respectfully to the Minister, and then gestured to Sanguini.
"Lord Fuilteach," she began. "As a well-respected and well-known member of vampire society, could you tell the court if Ophelia is typical of her kind?"

"Typical?" Sanguini asked. "No. My daughter is not typical. I have encountered many of my kind in the course of two hundred years. I have met the good, the bad... and the worst, but my child is far sweeter and gentler than any I have dealt with thus far. When she is herself, she is every inch her mortal mother's daughter."
He looked at his child, and sighed at the sight of her. "She is all I have left. Her brother was murdered by vampire hunters in Transylvania... they burned my boy. All I had left of him was a burned scrap of his clothing. No parent should ever have to see that, and no parent should have to see their daughter suffer as my girl has suffered. Before Tepes Syndrome damaged her mind, Ophelia was a tender-hearted thing. She made friends easily, charmed everyone, and never took a life when she fed. She always took the 'Little Drink'."
He glanced at the wizards and added, "That is what we call feeding without killing. She would take enough to slake her thirst, two pints at most, and heal the victim's wound so they would recover."
He looked back at Ophelia and said softly, "A mhuirnín... My darling girl. It was so strange for her to kill. I had never known her to commit such an act before. I do not doubt that had she been well, she never would have hurt those girls."

Giulietta smiled a little. Sanguini's affection for his daughter, while clearly a weakness in the doctor's mind, was really quite endearing. All the warmth of a father's love, with a vampire's ferocity behind it.
"And what of her other self... the one she calls 'Sickness'? What of her?" she asked then.

Sanguini frowned slightly. "She disturbs me," he admitted. "Everything my daughter is, this 'Sickness' is not. Sickness is like a wild animal - all impulse and whim and with no sense of duty, or right and wrong."
His lips pressed tightly together, and he hesitated before continuing. "When she is in control of Ophelia, I sometimes wondered would it be kinder to let her kiss the sunrise, as she once asked of me... wait outside for the morning sun to rise and destroy her," he explained. "I know my girl suffers when this monster controls her. She rages, and tries to hurt others. If we can rid Ophelia of this creature, I would be the happiest father in all the ages of the world."

*He spoke with respect, but remaining convinced that the vampiress was trouble.*
Your care for your daughter is touching, but it seems clear to me that 'Sickness' is a danger to anyone she comes into contact with.
How can you assure us, if she is released into your custody, that she will not kill again?

Sanguini felt a small flicker of hope ignite within him. Maybe things would go well for her, after all! He tried not to become too hopeful, however, because he knew exactly how life had a strange way of tempting one minute, and snatching the very thing one desires away right as it seems within one's grasp.
"Thank you, sir," Sanguini said. "The good dottore and I have acquired the services of a skilled potioneer, one Lucretia Black. She has managed to make a potion that can restore Ophelia's mind. Its effects are temporary, but I am confident that if she takes the potion at regular intervals, her mind will remain her own."

*This potion seemed almost like a miracle cure, but if it truly existed then it would certainly make caring for the vampire girl a lot easier. As long as treatment was kept up.*
I would prefer to see the effects of this potion with my own eyes before taking it on trust. I would like someone to look into the possibility of having some delivered immediately.
In the meantime, have we any witnesses to speak for Miss Fuilteach' character? If we can ensure that 'Sickness' is kept at bay, then all that remains is to question the woman behind it.

Ophelia was too distressed to hold back the wicked creature any longer, and her control cracked. "Bojan will speak for her, yes, why not call him to the court? And Severus Snape, you should ask him what he knows about little Miss Fuilteach. He could tell you a thing or two!" Sickness said gleefully.
"Bring your potions and spells, by all means. They will silence me, but never for long. Never for long at all..." she hissed.

Giulietta frowned, looking at Ophelia. Vlad Dracul, she would have given anything to keep the Hogwarts Headmaster out of this.
"If you would be so kind as to contact Miss Lucretia Black, she can provide us with the potion, and the cage will no longer be necessary to hold Ophelia. Mister Vladislav would be preferable as a character witness, but if the court insists... Headmaster Snape has had dealings with Miss Fuilteach," Giulietta said, but her voice was slightly hesitant.
