*Lu raises an eyebrow when the rat-girl busts back in and casts a telling look on the muddy stodge the Hufflepuff is now sharing with her. To her surprise, Zelda and Michael seem to get along with the task much better than anticipated.*
"Time, ladies -and gentleman!" *She taps loudly with her wand at the table where she has written down the percentages for the final mixture.*
"Make sure all heated items have cooled down properly before you strain everything. I don't want to see any leaves floating in your elixir but the peppermint!"

*He had got to the point where he was about to add his ground nutmeg, but a stray memory crossed his mind. Last time he had needed to use nutmeg in a class, he had found a substitute to save him from doing the careful work himself. He wondered if there was any in class. He couldn't remember it having any negative effect before, though maybe he was putting it down to bad memory but either way if he could find some it would save him some hassle.*
*His eyes moved across the walls where various vials and bottles were stored trying to spot what he was looking for. He noticed a yellow liquid which seemed to spark his memory.*
*He slid his chair away from the desk, allowing him room to stand, but waited a moment to make sure that Prof Black was not looking. When she looked away, he quietly rose from his seat, giving Gen a nod as he did and started to make his way to the front of the room.*
*Just in case Prof Black happened to look his way, he headed towards the front desk where the original ingredients were and began poking around trying to look like he was doing something that he was meant to.*
*He gave one final check to make sure her back was turned and quickly grabbed the bottle he was after before shoving it into a pocket and making his way back to his seat.*
*He pulled the bottle from his pocket and held it under the desk so that only he and Gen could see.*
Nux Myristica
*That was the stuff all right. He was surprised that he remembered the name after all this time, but reading it and seeing it must have reminded him.*
*He whispered ever so quietly to Gen.*
Hey Gen, forget the nutmeg, try a few drops of this.
*He twisted off the lid and poured a few drops from the bottle into it. He then took the lid to move the drops into his potion mixture. Allowing it to mix, he poured out a few more drops for Gen and slid the lid in front of her, while placing the bottle beneath his seat, out of sight.*

Ellie stormed back into the classroom. She had made a little stop at the kitchens to get Paul a treat and nicked some pasties for herself. She fell down on her seat and looked at the table next to her where Dinah juggled with her spoons. - Thank you for keeping my stuff safe! *She placed a chicken pasty on Dinah's lap and grinned. - To make the brewing more tasty! Did I miss much? *Ellie started to scrape half of Dinah's exploits into her dishes, not caring if there was dust in it or not.* Thanks for the pasty! My brain said thanks and good bye just after you left, so I wouldn't really know if you've missed anything, but I don't think so. *panicking slightly Dinah tried to catch up with the other students. Potion class generally had the effect of making her feel inept, kind of like an orange house-cat smelling of pee in a competition against Persians* *her panicking subsided when she realized that her efforts would get her nowhere. Instead she relaxed and leaned back in her chair while taking a bite of her pasty, adding a few crumbs to her brew. While lazily waiting for the teas to cool down she promised herself that she would try and take the time to look through the required readings before the next lesson*

Gen watched Michael with great curiosity. Their ingredients were already cooling and everything was going according to plan...so what was he doing then? When he returned she looked at the yellow liquid quizzically and asked in barely a whisper as he added a few drops into his mixture. "What will it do to the potion? I've never heard of it."
She pondered whether or not to follow suit and add the mysterious ingredient to her own potion. His mixture seemed fine, nothing had exploded as of yet. But what was its purpose? Oh well, she'd find out soon enough, wouldn't she? Deciding she'd take the gamble, she picked up the tiny lid between her fingers and poured its contents in her main potion, watching it bubble for a split second before it fully dissolved. "If this one blows up I'm calling it sabotage, Billows. Do you hear me?" She said with a laugh, pointing her stirring spoon at him while trying to look menacing.

Nessa continued to follow Professor Black's directions as well as she could. She couldn't seem to keep her mind on the lesson and she too wasn't going as fast as she likely should be. Jennessa began to get quite flustered, all thought of Ellie's bag gone from her mind as Ellie herself came back into the room. She growled quietly to herself and she continued to boil the contents quietly, trying hard to remember what they had been told to do next. Blast it all, the Professor had just said it a moment ago... She casted a hopeless glance around the room, seeing what the other students were doing. She breathed a sigh of relief seeing the next step as the Gryffindor girl did it, and thus she would perform the next task as well, hoping she didn't skip any steps.
That glance around the room also included the two snakes and her eyebrows raised a little as they held a different ingredient. But this was none of her concern to be sure, and thus her attention would go right back to her own potion.

*He whispered back.*
It's nutmeg, but pre-prepared to perfection. No chance of fouling it up by measuring wrong.
*To tell the truth he was a little annoyed that she would doubt him, but a small niggle had him hoping it would prove to work the way he hoped.*

Ellie looked at the other students, desperately seeking for inspiration. She got only more frustrated when she compared their expploits to the sorry outcome of her and Dinah's joint venture. Everyone else seemed to have fabricated enough liquid out of the ingredients to be able to measure the required amount of drops for the mixture. Fabricated themselves, not counting Michael and the other snake who seemed to have found inspiration in the potions' cupboard!
She put the soaked leaves on a cloth and twisted it as hard as she could with both thumbs. No impressive results.
- Dinah, do you have some tincture to share with me?
She looked rather helpless at her cooking-mate.

"Oh! Is that all? I should have known that, huh?" She continued to whisper while beginning the process of straining her ingredients. "Sorry Michael, I just get a little...nervous...around potions these days. You've seen what I can do first-hand, haven't you?" She shook her head, still smiling. "Not pretty at all. Although..." Her eyes narrowed and set themselves on Ellie. "...I wouldn't mind 'accidentally-on purpose' exploding a potion on a certain someone's face." She smirked mischievously, thinking that the girl is so ugly she may actually be doing her a favour.

*He smirked. He had seen what she was capable of when left to her own devices.*
I'd like to say you can trust me, but well.
*His grin had a touch of wickedness in it.*
How 'bout we see what else is on the shelf for our claw friend?

Zelda finished the last step as she called time. She let out a sigh of relief as she strained her cooled mixtures. She didn't melt her cauldron, nothing was on fire. It seemed like a good day on her part. Yes her mixture was a pale, sickly yellow, rather than the shade of gold it called for, but that wasn't too bad, she hoped. Looking down at the strained potion she picked out the few peppermint leaves that must have gotten through the strainer.
She looked over at Jennessa struggling and felt bad for the Hufflepuff. They were close enough to be able to whisper without being heard, so Zelda leaned foward at her table, looking like she was merely concentrating.
"Don't forget to add the peppermint."
She was a nice girl and Zelda figured that she should help her out. She glanced towards the front making sure her comment wasn't overheard. It's not like she was cheating, merely helping out a student in need.

She looked rather helpless at her cooking-mate. Tincture? I don’t know. It was liquidish at some point, but now it looks more like porridge. *she scooped all of her ingredients together for a second time and strained them to get rid of crumbs and rat droppings. She chucked away the leftovers and ended up with a few drops of liquid which had a grey – bordering on green - color* I swear, it’s right before I pour alcohol over myself. *she looks over at Michael and Gen and whispers to Ellie* I bet one of my kidneys that ms Black is gonna catch them

*from the corner of her eye she sees Michael scrabble around in shelves he has no need to search for this assignment. Too bad for him, his potion has been on a good way so far.*
*Lu walks around between the tables, nodding appreciatively here and there. Janessa and Tina had definitely improved.*
"Good, I see everyone is right for the final step. Add the correct percentage of alcohol compared to the amount of your outputs, put the sprig of peppermint in and shake carefully. The elixir should turn to a clear yellow, like a pale sunflower."

Tina feared Professor Black's control walk through the class, her brows lifted further upwards. I hope my potion is okay. So often she had embarrassed herself through lack of skill, but this time she actually couldn't see anything that could be wrong. Suppressing a relieved sigh she took the bottle of alcohol, carefully adding some of it without dripping anything, hesitating. Sunflower yellow she pondered silently. I hope that turns out well. And her fingers released their grip on the sprig of peppermint, beginning to gently shake it.

Ellie added the alcohol to the muddy mixture, stirring furiously with the sprig.
- Turn y-e-l-l-o-w!, she swore to the solution.
Nothing happened, the colour stayed a light brown. She stared glumly at her flask and decided to give up.

Jennessa did always get nervous in Potions... It was one of her worst classes after all. She strained her mixture after allowing it to boil. She cringed a little at the results, but in reality they weren't too bad. Even in her distracted state, she had managed to add the ingredients correctly and as she started to strain out the liquid, she paused, just knowing she was missing something... And then! The voice of her savior came through. Don't forget the peppermint. Yes! She grabbed some of it, casting a thankful glance in Zelda's direction. And she continued to prepare her potion, adding the alcohol and stirring the peppermint in as well. And at this point, her mixture turned some kind of pale yellow. Maybe not quite sunflower, but it was close. She breathed a sigh of relief, and glanced over quickly to Zelda, merely a glance, but met her eyes and mouthed thank you, quickly before continuing to stir the concoction just a bit more as she returned her attention to the Professor. She couldn't help but glance over to Ellie and Dinah, unable to help cringing as she saw the color of their potions... Oh dear... But she drew her attention quickly back to Professor Black once again.
